Does it make sense to rent instead of sell?

You just moved out of state and left your home that needs to be sold. Unfortunately you did not have time or the money to get it into pristine shape. It needs a bit of this and a little of that, but who has the time?

If you find yourself in this position, you might want to consider renting your home. If you can cover the carrying costs of the home, this includes mortgage payments, taxes, HOA fees and a management company to look after your home, you might do well to rent.

By renting your home, you will gain time to get settled in your new home and save up for work that might need to be done on your old home. You may also find that you like the extra income from the rental as well.

So, just because you left your old home in need of a little paint, this does not necessarily mean you have to sell at a discount. Consider renting for a year or two and then fix the home up for sale.

I know plenty of people that do this. Arizona is a place where a lot of folks relocate to and they leave their homes behind in another state. As a matter of fact I'm working with a buyer right now from Michigan in this exact situation.
