Across the country there has been a surge of interest in mid-century modern (MCM) architecture.  These mod homes were space-aged designs back in the day.  Now they're retro and regaining popularity.  Here is an example of a mid-century style home:

Does your town have a whole neighborhood of MCM architecture?  If so, I'd encourage you to post about and feel free to link back in the comments!

I have notice and increased interest in these mid-century modern houses too.   I have a theory that young people want to live in a house that looked like their grandparents home.  Notice the rise in popularity of 1920-30 bungalows in the last 15 years.   If I'm right homes is split-levels with rock exteriors and shag carpet will be hot, hot, hot in 20-30 years.

Enjoyed the post!  I like snooping around lortondale.com every once in a while myself.  Interesting stuff going on there.  And really, how many california-style ranch homes would you pick over something a little extra unique?  Hello by the way!  I'm Tyler!

Hi Anthony! Mid-century is my favorite. It sometimes needs a little updating, but the opportunities are endless...

Anthony,

I can't get enough of it!!! I love mid century modern. My downtown condo is filled with mid century modern pieces. Almost everything I have is older than me, most pieces as old as my parents!

It's simple (IMHO)... Mid century modern has nice lines. Clean, classic lines. In many ways, mid century modern also involves more in-balance living.Mid century modern houses weren't massive, at least not most of them. The houses were just big enough, filled with items that were just cool enough. Not excess, not over-sized.

For me, mid century modern design feels really grounded. I enjoy the fact that many of the pieces have history. Nothing I have is big name designer, and that doesn't matter. I enjoy thinking that someone else sat in this chair, at that table... There's a permanence to it. Everything changes, but the furniture is still here...

For many people who enjoy modern design, mid century design is also a better price point entrance. Brand new modern houses, as well as brand new designer furniture, is cost prohibitive for most. On a tighter budget, mid century modern provides an entry point that is still smart and makes a statement.

Vicki cracks me up!!!! Vicki, shag is already back!!!! ;) Albeit, not that long shag, but in Seattle the plain straight thread carpet is not so stylish any more...
