THE BEST ADVICE

Sometimes it's what you don't say.

I have written several posts about the challenges I am facing as a real estate agent.  My struggles are not unique, but apparently many find them interesting.

I hope so and I try to make my writing entertaining for the reader and therapeutic for me.

I enjoy writing.

Anyway, I am very open and honest with my struggles in this crazy business called real estate.

But does that mean I am doing something wrong??

Yes, I am struggling.  Yes, I have financial stresses.

But I am also being THE BEST REAL ESTATE AGENT that I know how.  I don't really want to change.

Money will come.

YEAR 1=$32K COMMISSION
YEAR 2=$55K COMMISSION
YEAR 3=??

I don't know yet what year 3 will bring, but I do know it will grow.

This is in a housing market some say is the worst since the depression.

Let's think long term.  What commission do you think I will be doing in year 10??

So, I do love the comments.  Keep them coming.

But sometimes a guy is just looking for a shoulder to cry on.

Ken, I have been reading your posts and have been enjoying them.  They are so down to earth and natural.  You seem like you are a really nice guy.  I have been in real estate for 10 years. Eery year has been a lot better than the last.  But, then I had to relocate a few months ago for my husbands promotion, so I am literally staring all over again. I no longer have my own company, but I am working for a local company here.  ( I decided to have less stress in my life...) But, that is ok, I will figure it out.  I will just be better and stronger because of it.

Brings back memories of my first year in the market some 20 years ago. The average sales price in our small community was $ 52,000. Average DOM was 210. My first year gross was $95,000.

I remember my First Broker said that I should have a pretty good career because I had encountered every problem that could be encountered as a Real Estate agent in that first year.    : `)

Ken,

My experience is that it takes a couple of years before people begin thinking of an agent as "that real estate guy", but once they do, the referrals start coming in regularly.  I have been doing this for about 15 years and each one gets easier.  Additionally (but typically), each one becomes more profitable that the last.  However, even after fifteen years, I made less this past year than the year before, but I made more than two years before that.  Stick with it.  Things are getting better already.

Ken- You are great. I really enjoy reading your posts. I think this career is a daily trial. Just when I think I have it figured out, it throws me another curve. Maybe that is why we enjoy it:)

Thanks Cherimie.  We are always learning.  Every day for 2 1/2 years I have gotten better.

This post was in response to a trio of commentors (Leonard Thomas, Carl Ostenson, and my brother Scott) who are teaching me what selling is.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Ken- First off let me say I like your posts. I read them when I see them. You are a good writer. Now with that said....buck up buddy!!!! I am only into my 2nd year and didn't make a dime my first year. So you have me beat by a long shot. And your 2nd year smoked your first!! This year is off to a great start for me, but I am still lagging compared to your stats. You can do it!! Don't despair. All your hard work and integrity will pay off.
