Not only will you, your family and friends be transported back in time by the surroundings but you will be able to watch a new movie release from Hollywood.
We were there a while back and are happy to see Shankweiler's Drive-In Theater is still in operation, actually their 81st year!
Visiting this drive-in is like stepping back in time: children running around the grass, people in their lawn chairs in front of their cars, the original concession area. The hanging speakers are gone (you may remember them), the ones that hang off the driver side door, instead your car radio handles the audio. While the movie may be good, to me it is the experience of sitting in my own car in the open air surrounded by other car with people that makes the drive-in movie experience a fun thing.
If you have never been to a drive-in movie or want to do something different with your children, family and/or friends, plan a visit to Shankweiler's for an evening under the stars and create a fun memory. It is best to get there early to claim a good spot.
Shankweiler's Drive-In Theatre is roughly 60 miles from Delaware County just off the North East Extension of the turnpike. So figure an hour depending on traffic. It is the longest running drive-in in the country according to their website.
