Content is King.  Video is a Must.

Content is King. Video is a Must.Website content always has been and always will be king.  The new and very important addition to that is video.  I’ve written several posts and created a few video tutorials about the value of using video to promote your business.

Video, when created, optimized and promoted correctly is a great way to stir up interest in your products and services.  Here’s a few things you can do to get better results from your videos.

  • Places to Promote – To be sure as many people as possible see your video, you need to promote it on as many resources as possible.  The two obvious places are your website and blog.  Less obvious is your social profile.  Add it to your Facebook business page, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.  Add your video to YouTube, Slideshare and Vimeo.

As long as you have optimized your video with a keyword-rich title, description and tags, it will be easier to find in the search engines.

  •  Short Videos are Viewed More Often – What’s the first thing you look at before you start watching a video?  If you’re like me, you look to see how long it is.  If it’s over 3 minutes, I may have to save it to watch later.

Tutorials are expected to be longer.  Chop those videos up into bite-sized pieces so they can be viewed in a chronological order.  If the viewer doesn’t have time to watch the entire tutorial in one sitting, at least they’ll have a place to bookmark.

  •  You Don’t Have to Be All Things to All People – We’re all an expert in something.  Luckily, for the subjects you’re not as familiar with, you can find someone else who is.  Create a video of you interviewing someone whose profession is closely related to yours.  For instance, ask an escrow officer questions about the escrow process.  Or, interview a home inspector about why a home inspection is so important.  Be sure to give them credit at the end of the video.

  • Other People’s Videos – If you’re short on time or would like to create your video library quickly and easily, take a look at a service called, Fast Forward Stories.  They provide a large library of real estate topics that are branded to your business.  They’re super simple to add as an interesting video component to your website or blog.

Content is King. Video is a Must.  Search engines are paying a lot of attention to video.  Creating and promoting video on your website, blog, social media and networks will drive more traffic your way and set you apart from your competition.

What sets me apart, will set you apart.

Whenever I ask my clients what they prefer, text or video, they say text. They mention two reasons. One, they like to be in control of the way they consume the information. Two, they can't watch videos easily in all settings. My attitude and experience are the same. So videos may help you with SEO but that doesn't mean your audience will actually watch them. Still, I agree to have videos is a good thing. It's expected the same way as having a Website.

Good points, Gerhard.  Text and video each have their place in the online world.  If you know your audience, you'll know which works best for you.  My point is about getting more online exposure and credibility through the medium most people are using today.  Thank you for your views.

Have written, posted lots of video posts but the learning curve and breaking out of old ways to do the real estate dog and pony. There is the disconnect. Beef up your video channels... not just for your most expensive properties. They are on demand open house, welcome to our town too easy. On demand information in show and tell, you are there happens.

Hi Andrew - Having a video channel with well-optimized videos on a variety of topics is a great way to showcase your knowledge.  Thank you!

Just selling $1.5 million in investments to one client because of video, and picked up a first time investor through video two days ago. My record for a video client is 19 houses and duplexes with more coming. I am a big proponent of video.

Video is just getting bigger, everyday as society wants to get more information more quickly then reading. The sooner you start the better. Still not that many agents doing real video content and not just home tours.

Hi Stefan - Several years ago, the recommendation was to add a lot of text to web pages in order to get better search engine rankings.  With more and more people using handheld devices to access the web, copius amounts of text no longer "work" for most people.  They want a "point and click" option.  Google has made adjustments for this type of viewer, giving better ranking to those people who are keeping up with technology.
