As my children were growing up and preparing to leave for college, I began to anticipate the empty nest syndrome. So I decided to to finish my degree in Psychology.
In one of my classes I met a young single mother who was putting herself through college. She had lost her own mother as a teenager and I becames a surrogate of sorts to her.
One day she was at my house and we were studying for an exam she commented on some of the nice things that I owned. I looked at her and said, "Money doesn't make you happy." Then she said: "Well, being poor doesn't either!"
I think that is the best come back I have heard in a long time!
