Michael Tilson Thomas and Emanuel Ax….

It was a lovely night at Tanglewood. These two along with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Mozart and Mahler made for a joyful evening. Emanuel Ax, a Polish immigrant, is a Tanglewood fellow and pianist extraordinaire. He is agile and passionate. Michael Tilson Thomas is one of my favorite conductors. He is a presence and he brings his family history to bear in everything he does. His grandparents were Russian immigrants who stared in the Yiddish Theater and believed that loving the audience mattered and it does. So with the poignancy of Mozart and Mahler and the artistry of the orchestra, it was a perfect evening.
