An Up Close Look at My Garden...Serendipity Sunday
This was one of those rare Sundays where I didn't have to work. There are some chores on the home front begging for me to get to work on them. One of them is my garden. I did spend the better part of today working in my small herb garden and my large veggie garden.
This really is a close up look at my garden. I used the macro setting on my camera.
All of the plants are looking so good. I got a late start again this year, but the plants are growing just fine and I've already been harvesting zucchinis, patty pan squash and cucumbers. The tomatoes are coming along fine and it will only be a few more days before I start harvesting them.
I have about 30 tomato plants of all different varieties. One of my favorites is Green Zebra. This one never turns red. Many years ago someone encouraged me to taste one of these, and I'm so glad I did. I also grow Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, 4th of July, Big Beef, Roma and about five different types of cherry tomatoes.
I've already started harvesting some fresh herbs to dry. Right now I have some lemon basil drying.
One of the things I did today was clear out a bare portion of my garden that didn't get any ground cover or have anything planted. I put some more drip hoses down and planted four kinds of basil and some dill seed in hopes of having another good harvest before a fall frost. I think it will work. This picture shows my pineapple sage and rosemary planted together in a pot. It's the best smelling pot around. The two aromas mingle together so well. I'll be bringing this pot indoors to overwinter both plants.
It won't be long before the colder weather is here, but for now I will enjoy the extra work that gardening gives me. It really isn't work. It's more of a hobby and I love the rewards.
