"La Milla de Mayo" Community Meeting in Gaithersburg

The Gaithersburg Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, in partnership with the Montgomery County Road Runners Club, is hosting a public meeting to discuss a new event in Olde Towne, La Milla de Mayo. The presentation, with opportunity for comments and questions, takes place on Wednesday, July 29 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the cafeteria of Gaithersburg Elementary School, 35 N. Summit Avenue.

La Milla de Mayo is a one mile run/walk being planned for Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 6 p.m. The event is designed to encourage fitness and to showcase Olde Towne, and will feature a one mile chip-timed race, multiple kids fun runs, and food and festivities after the run.

This is a City of Gaithersburg announcement.

Heck, I think I might even be able to run/walk a mile!  It's those 5 milers plus that kill my hips and knees.  That's a nice community event, Roy!

We lost our internet connection for almost a full day after a Monday afternoon storm. So, I am a bit behind.

Be well prepared for very hot weather.

Monitor those at high risk.
Extreme heat can be hazardous to your health and although anyone can suffer from heat-related illness, some people are at greater risk than others. Those most at risk for heat-related illnesses include children, older adults, those that work or exercise outside and those with pre-existing medical conditions. Elderly or disabled residents in Montgomery County in need of a free fan can call 311 for information.
