How well do you know the most popular real estate websites? According to the eBizMBA Rank, the Top 10 Real Estate websites as of July 1, 2015, included many familiar names, along with one or two sites you may not have expected!

Here's the order of popularity, as determined by the number of unique visitors per month:

1. Zillow

2. Trulia

3. Yahoo Homes

4. Realtor.com

5. Redfin

6. Homes.com

7. ApartmentGuide

8. Curbed

9. RE/MAX

10. HotPads.com

Zillow remains comfortably in the lead, with approximately 36 million unique visitors per month. Trulia is in distant second with 23 million; Realtor.com, while gaining a little ground, is firmly in fourth place with 18 million unique visitors per month. The top four websites are well ahead of the rest of the pack, with Redfin averaging less than half of Realtor.com's monthly traffic.

When browsing these top real estate websites, you'll notice that many of them have very similar, mobile-friendly home page designs. Top real estate websites also have these features:

  • Easy navigation at-a-glance
  • Invitation to user engagement - open fields for data entry
  • User-centric experience with emphasis on information
  • Unique features, articles, and localized data
  • Reasons to return to the site - interesting content beyond "home buying and selling"
  • Free mobile apps
  • Social media integration
  • Quick response to user inquiries

The good news is, you can enhance your website to include these features and strategies. Sites like Zillow, Trulia and Realtor.com can also be leveraged to direct traffic back to your personal website, through your listings, client testimonials, professional bios and ads.

By providing local, relevant information, with engaging content that is frequently updated, you can offer reasons for visitors to return to your site. Incorporating a blog, social media pages and newsfeeds, along with a CRM, can help you build online relationships.

Providing a quality experience online is an ongoing process! To engage your users, you need to be engaged with your website and social media pages. If time and/or technical processes make this unfeasible, turn to a dedicated, experienced real estate web team for help!

I see individual agents websites as becoming more about verification, rather then lead generation.
