Blogging in 2015: Can You Still Rank?

Way back in 2011 (which in internet age is like 100 years ago) Google introduced the first Panda update. Since then, we've seen a number of related updates to Panda. Most recently, TheSEMPost reports on Panda 4.2, which may be more a refresh than an actual update, but nonetheless purports to impact about 2-3% of search queries once complete. 

The original intention of the first Panda update, which caused a decent amount of upheaval in the SEO world, was to surface more unique and valuable content. Designed to penalize content farms or sites with very thin content, where the only purpose was to get a visitor to click on an ad, Panda ushered in the idea that content can and should be more detailed and provide the reader with real value to give the author a better chance to rank. It was one of many steps Google has taken to eliminate content from their index that has no redeaming value for their client, the internet searcher. 

So here we sit in 2015, still with an opportunity to create compelling content for the search engines, still with a chance to use that content to connect with real buyers and sellers, but what's changed?

In years gone by, you could throw up almost anything in your ActiveRain blog and it had a decent chance of landing somewhere on the first page. Those days are gone (that's why those years are gone by, get it?). Now you need to be more specific, and also go deeper on the subjects about which you choose to blog. 

There are still key elements like selecting the proper title that will impact your ability to get eyeballs on your content, but what else should you consider when you sit down to write your next blog post? That's what we'll discuss in our first webinar on ActiveRain University.
