Throwback Thursdays - Batter Up
Some of my earliest memories are of me standing on a stool in the kitchen watching my mom or dad mix up a cake or batch of cookies. I patiently stood there taking it all in but my real motive was being close by when the beaters were being discharged from the electric mixer. I had brothers and sisters and had to share with them, too.
I passed this treat down to my children. In this photo is my daughter, Lori and her friend, Caryn licking the beaters clean. I did not worry about them eating raw batter or them getting sick. It was just somethng you did. By the way they are in their forties now and are still friends even though they live over a thousand miles apart. I think that is awesome. It looks like a batch of chocolate chip cookies on the cookie sheet and I am sure they ate some of those when they were warm from the oven.
This is a tradition that should be passed down generation to generation. A little uncooked batter won't hurt anybody. I now let my grandsons stand on stools in the kitchen and lick the beaters. Are you passing on these old favorites to the next generation?
