Delray Beach- Lots and lots of Corn!

No, not in Delray but on our road trip to Iowa and Kansas to see family and some friends.  We enjoy our road trips because we don't have to worry about being at some airport 2 hours ahead of time or figuring out what to pack in the least amount of space.

After zipping through Iowa and the cornfields, we headed south to Kansas.  On our way out, we stopped at LeClaire Iowa. If you're a fan of American Pickers (I love it) then you know that's the home of Antique Archeology- Mike and Frank.

“The worst times can be your best if you think with positive energy”.       Domenico Dolce

We spent 3 days in a sauna, better known as Kansas City, KS.  I kept looking at my GPS to make sure we hadn't been transported back to Florida (where, by the way, it was cooler)

I also put on a brave face and wore an Astro's (my hometown team) baseball hat (given to me by my friend).  I'm not sure what was worse, walking into the stadium with it on, or sitting smack dab in the middle of a sea of Royals' fans.

I herewith offer you a few road travel tips:

1.Even with our wonderful gadgets that we have, take along an actual road atlas.

2.If you want information on the local hotels, do NOT ask a local!  They don't stay in them!!! Go to YELP or TripAdvisor!!

3.The more snacks you take in the car with you.... the more you'll eat.

4. Never under any circumstances grab a burger from the Japanese fast food restaurant attached to a small gas station in the middle of nowhere!

5. If you forget and do #4, then make sure you have a bottle of Pepto Bismol with you.

All in all, we had a wonderful time with family and friends.  If you really want to see our country, and if time permits, I strongly suggest a road trip.  Airport people are different from those you see in their real life settings.

Kathy Streib ,  We just returned from a 6000 mile trip and we are glad we took an Atlas with us.

Alexandra- I rely on YELP when we're on the road.  I did however ask someone at the front desk of a National chain who he would recommend since they had no rooms available, and he gave me an excellent recommendation.  I'm a sucker for a road trip. Ron and Alexandra Seigel

Bill- you made me think of the old television series about the 2 guys who traveled on Route 66.  I'm not a picker but my sister-in-law is into antiques.

Anna- thanks!  I'm going to tell Larry that saying.  I love going to the Midwest.. people are so real there.  Anna Banana Kruchten - AZ Top Banana of Real Estate!

BARFF- you might appreciate this but I had serious hat hair after wearing that baseball cap.  Roger D. Mucci

Nicole- I found out that there is special corn that is grown for popcorn... either that or someone is pulling my leg!

Alan- that's our favorite way to cook it!  We remove the silk and tie the husb around the cob, then roast the ears. Alan Kirkpatrick

Gay- exactly.  I thought Larry was nuts but I didn't want to sound like some high maintenance person.  Ugh... it was just awful. Gay E. Rosen

Brian- I love these trips and seeing the cities and towns and not just the airports of the cities. Brian England

Sharon- I'd rather have eaten a stale bag of chips from a vending machine! Sharon Lee

Larry- ok, you beat us on that one.  What car did you take ?  Thankfully we took the Prius, but the problem with it is that you so seldom have to fill it up, you forget. Larry Johnston

Sounds like you had a enjoyable road trip  . . . . with exception of the burger.

Good luck and success.

Sounds like you are having some true adventures on the road.  And yeah, avoiding burgers from small, dive Japanese take outs is probably advisable.

When I first saw your title I thought I needed to drive up to Delray Beach! But Iowa is to far to drive for some fresh corn! Enjoy your trip and your family!!!

Great post on your travels and I enjoyed reading it, Kathy. Great advice also on not asking a local for hotel recommendations!

Hi Kathy - Sounds like it was a fun trip, except maybe for that burger (you knew that was a mistake before you ate it, didn't you?) and the midwest heat and humidity. Next time, you'll have to swing by Colorado.

Nice pictures, Kathy!  I like the effect you did with the last one, where you have the two guys in color, on a black and white background.

Hahaha. You really made me laugh, Kathy. I agree especially about taking food on a car trip, and stopping to eat at any place attached to a gas station in the middle of nowhere. Lol, lol.

Oh no, not a burger from a Japanese place next to a gas station? It gives me heartburn just thinking about it.

Kathy Streib as always I love your posts.  You add a bit of tongue in cheek humor to almost everything.  The baseball hat reminds me of my brother's rehearsal dinner in Texas when his three sisters showered him with Pennsylvania memorabilia including Terrible Towel (Steelers) from my mother.
