FOMC Announces Interest Rates Will Not Increase At This Time

There has been much speculation on whether the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will raise the interest rate banks borrow at or not.  Most of the year it was believed the Federal Reserve would raise the interest rate in the 3rd or 4th quarter of this year.  Well this week the FOMC Announced Interest Rates Will Not Increase At This Time, but they will continue to monitor the nations economic condition until conditions are once again favorable to increase the rate.

This will be viewed a good news by most, but I am one who is not so sure this is good news or not.  At least it should reduce the speculation about interest rates rising this year.

The news of interest rates remaining where they are is a clear indication all the hoop-la from the current administration about the economy getting better is more of the smoke and mirrors we have come to expect from Washington.  also the the news this week of interest rates will not increase, is another clear indication no one can predict what interest rates will do in the future, not even those responsible for increasing them.  The only clear sign of interest rates increase is when it finally happens and not a day before.

George: Your last sentence says it all! The rest is often just a bunch of noise.

George, I tend to think that over all it's good news, of course you're spot on with Washington.

Certainly good news for future home buyers whether some like it or not. I'll stay out of the politics.

In my humble opinion it means it is still a great time for buyers to get on the homeownership band wagon.  Not such good news for the economy because we aren't seeing the improvement.

Hello George Souto

More smoke and mirrors is right and it's only going to get more foggy with the election year around the corner!

They always seem to leave their options open but I was glad when I heard they were not increasing interest rates yet.  I still think it won't happen until October/November.

Hi George Souto , At least we can still inform potential buyers that now is the time to buy, because the interest rates are still low.

I wish the same could be said about LIBOR. It has been rising rapidly every month this year.

Most people I follow did not think that the Fed would raise interest rates until October at the earliest so this is not news to me, nor is an indication of just a national economy issue, but a world wide economy issue which affects US policy.

The Fed would love to increase the rate to give themselves more flexibility to control the money supply at a later time, but right now it is just not the right time yet.

Good morning George. The economy in this country is not going anywhere fast, our state is even further behind than the rest of the country. I don't see how rates rates makes any sense at this time and I don't see the economy numbers getting better the rest of the year either.

Hi George.  The Fed primary job is to fight inflation.  We have deflation going on.

Crystal balls for interest forecasts haveb always been foggy...to some, it erases the urgency to decide to buy or sell now.

Good morning George Souto ,

Our economy is certainly not where it needs to be therefore raising interest rate this third and fourth quarter do not make sense! Withe the elections right around the corner I'm sure they will do everything they can to keep interest rates where they are!

It's certainly good news for now, but we all know that could change. I think in general there is a wide spread belief that the overall economy is in better shape than it really it. Yep. lots of progress but there are still plenty of issue with short sales, people out of work, layoffs, and struggling businesses.

Jeff
