It is still raining - for the third week in a row! While tomorrow is supposed to be better weather, I think everyone around has a bit of cabin fever at this point.
There were over 7 inches of rainfall in Tampa yesterday and it was worse on Saturday. My sister-in-law posted photos on Facebook of the street I grew up on in South Tampa, where she lives with my brother, and water was about a foot from the front door. You could see a car in the photo, two homes away, that had water up to the hood of the car!
South Tampa was built in the 1950's for the most part and they did not put in storm drains or retention ponds back then. When storms come, South Tampa floods.
To our north, up in Pasco County, there is also a lot of flooding going on, as well as to our south, down in the Shore Acres area of St Petersburg. These are all areas that are prone to flooding. That is why it is so important to work with a Realtor when purchasing a home. Ask about flood elevations and flood zones. Your Realtor SHOULD volunteer this vital information! It is information you will need when obtaining flood insurance on your home. If the home is in a flood zone and you obtain a mortgage, it will be mandatory to secure flood insurance. Those rates are constantly rising and with so many areas in a high enough area where flood insurance is optional, flood zones NEED to be disclosed up front - before spending time looking at properties you may not be interested in once you have all of the information.
With all of this rain today, I may run out for a while but plan on spending most of my day doing paperwork on the internet. Thank heaven for being self employed!
