I read these on Mashable yesterday, Monday Morning, and knew I had to spread the word.

Tech Failures

Recent technology failures. Boy that has to suck!As you can imagine, with 25 years of "virtual" experience under my belt, I pay close attention to all technology; Big companies like Apple ad Microsoft and smaller up and coming companies that have built empires on their own.

Yesterday, these two giants were airing their laundry about issues with their products. The Google+ article was actually pretty funny because it had some great quotes from the company itself!

 Google+

The first thing I read was about Google and the Google+ feature. According to the Google people, they wanted a social network to compete against Facebook.

"As Google stumbled and failed and stumbled again, Facebook grew larger and more influential. By 2010, Facebook was privately valued at $14 billion and approaching 500 million users — accounts with real names, birthdays, photos, a network of connections and vibrant news feeds."

The article provided some really good comments by Google themselves about their failure to compete against the Facebook platform. In fact, the article mentioned that many Google+ employees are now employed with Facebook!

The problem Google+ has is that it doesn't offer anything "better" than facebook and most Facebook users are comfortable where they are.

So now, the plan for Google+ is to become more like a pinterest platform. So we will see what happens in the coming days for the former Facebook wannabe!

If you are unfamiliar with these platforms, you can compare my Facebook and Google+ accounts for an idea of the differences. While you are there, LIKE and comment on my Facebook and Join me on Google+!

Failure can be an expensive endeavor. Companies like Google and Microsoft seem to be able to afford them!WINDOWS 10

" It’s safe to say that the majority of users are happy, but as with any new software upgrade, there are exceptions. Some are airing their grievances on Twitter, and others are doing so even closer to home."

Becoming a first end user of a new software program usually has its ups and downs and Windows 10, released July 29th, is no different! Users have found many bugs and have been unhappy with their results.

Some of the issues reported with the upgrade include:

  • Minecraft does not run full screen (OMG!!!!)
  • Generally Slower
  • Shuts down, hibernates and reboots

As a result, many people have uninstalled Windows 10 and reverted back to Windows 8.1! I'm sure there will be improvements made but I don't have the time to wait for them right now!

Thanks for the heads up.  I do have a reservation in to upgrade to Windows 10.  Maybe I just won't do it.

Kathy - Thanks for sharing this info. I am always slow to get any software updates, like Windows 10, for that very reason. I want them to get all the bugs out first, and then I will update.

My first computer was an Apple IIE, which I purchased in 1983.  I actually worked at a software development company for 8 years.  I once thought it best to stand in line at midnight, like I did to obtain the Windows 98 upgrade for my Windows 95 computer.  What I have learned over the years is that the latest may not be the greatest.  I am currently using Windows 7.  I never wanted to have Windows 8.  I'm content to wait until after a new version of gee-wizzery has been on the market for awhile.  Afterall, that's when the real "beta testing" goes on.

I have earned my living with computers since 1965. One very important lesson is to let others work out the bugs each time new versions are released. I was happy with Windows 7. I only got Windows 8 when I got a new laptop. I will wait a long time before "upgrading" to Windows 10.

As a longtime software user, I wait until they get the bugs worked out and advise my clients to do the same. Who has the time to wait for your computer to reboot all the time, or to have information compromised??? Certainly not me! So give them time, they will work it out!

This year, be sure to keep your antivirus protection current and install all updates. Malware, hackers and viruses run rampant and lack of attention to your computer security can cause chaos on many levels!

Happy New Year!
