ASK AN AMBASSADOR: Is It Tuesday Again?

Month after month, keep on bloggingASK AN AMBASSADOR:  Is It Tuesday Again?

(Aka why blogging schedules can help you blog until you succeed)

Every Tuesday we try to share something that can be helpful to the community.  Maybe it's something AR community specific, maybe it's something blogging specific, maybe it's related to overall marketing.  Some weeks we do better than others, but there's one thing this blogging routine does for us, and that is create a routine!

Once upon a time posting more than once a day for us wasn't unusual.  Over time, that practice changed until now, when we post daily, but rarely more than once in a day.

We've posted a fairly large body of work out there & it's working for us nonstop, placing on the search results, attracting eyes and clicks, driving traffic to our IDX pages, and sometimes leading to that desired email or phone call from a potential client.  It's a good thing, what we strive for with our blogging.

A key for us to blog regularly has been developing a routine.  Like we mentioned, every Tuesday has been Ask An Ambassador day and has been for about two years running.  Other days of the month are set aside for market reports (the 1st of each month, and then around the 5th to 10th of each month).  We scatter in some local events depending on how mood and time allows.  Frankly local event posts are some of the easiest to update if you're in a time crunch.  Pull the latest details for time, place, cost, etc. and you're good to go for that local festival, sports tourney, first day of school, etc.

Our experience (and we think this holds true for most regular bloggers) is the more often you post, the easier it gets.  Your idea sources are out there (other blog posts, newspapers, internet news, customer experiences, listings, market changes, subdivisions, new construction news, etc.).  There really is no lack of possibilities, it all comes down to what you have the time and mood to write that day.

Is ActiveRain worth it?  To us that's an easy question to answer.  YES!  It's a key part of our Internet presence.  Blog posts from ActiveRain CAN rank page 1 and that's without keyword stuffing.  Identifying what works for YOUR local market (a niche or two?) and developing that theme has been critical for us.

And patience, you're going to need this too.  Blogging is NOT an overnight success thing, but a steady accumulation of web presence until you hit critical mass.  Why do you think the point system is in place?  Short answer, to keep you motivated and engaged UNTIL your blogging has results.  After that, you just might find the phone rings are all the motivation you need!

Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help!

Hi Bliz - With 20+ market reports a month, and no time usually to do more than one a day, it's pretty easy to get on a schedule. I really look forward to the non-market report days, when I can write something fun, or like you, helpful.

BLiz: I am a big proponent of putting together a blogging schedule. It really helps us stay on track with when we share certain types of articles and which audience we are writing for.

I admire you for having a schedule. I'm ready for when it becomes easier. I constantly fact-check and Google phrases so I don't fall flat on my face. :)

So true, the more you post the easier it becomes.  With regular posting you'll not be able to sleep until you've posted something that day.  It is one of the most positive addictions you can have :)

BLiz- having a schedule of what and when you post something can be very helpful.  I don't have a rigid schedule except for my Saturday and Sunday post topics.

Dick, After 20 market reports I'd be wanting to do something fun too!

Troy, I don't have to "think" about what to post the next 4-5 days.  It's ALL market reports, the only question is which order to do them.

Anita, Remembering who we write for is a critical part of the equation.

Pat, All in due time :)

Susan, No doubt a good kind of addiction.  Most days I may have little trouble with a topic, but Tuesdays can push me a bit harder because it's tougher to come up with a new topic.

Janice, that'll work!

Kathy, Even if we have just a couple of days scripted, it helps the week flow by.

I've slacked some on my regular weekly posts, but know it's a great habit to be in.  Good idea sharing this with others to help keep them blogging.

BLiz I should be as organized as you.  A blogging schedule makes perfect sense.  It takes the mystery and stress out of what to blog about.

BLiz, I can only hope to be more like you when I grow up. I'm much less structured. That can be good and bad depending upon the day. Much of my blogging is a result of something that's going on; an email received, a phone call made or a deal that's gone wonky. Blogging actually helps me process what just happened and make sense of it. I haven't written a market report in months. OUCH! I've been too busy to care. When things slow down a little, I'll be playing major catch up. I think it's good to post daily but I haven't actually done so in months. I'm happy that I don't stress out about that like I used to and Tom White likes that I'm coming to bed at a reasonable time rather than posting late into the night.

John, It's a win-win for all of us.  More blogging, more to read, more for the bots to like about this site.

Tammy, I've had some days like that, but lately I just give up on the comments when it  hits midnight.  6 a.m. comes way too early for me.

Charita, It helps, especially when I'm busy and don't have a lot of time to think about what to post for the day.

Tammie, I've sought more balance with my AR time.  A post a day is still mandatory for me personally, and I've sacrificed some reading and commenting time to make a little more time in my day.  Just couldn't keep the old pace and have any down time at all.

Hi Bill, I like the routine of daily blogging and the mix of real estate, localisms, AR community posts, market reports, etc. I am looking to do more real estate expert type posts to see if that has more punch on the internet. The key for me is to be consistent. I am craving more personal time too so some of the commenting has to go.

Debbie, Commenting is probably the most expendable part for me in a crunch.  The last few days I've had almost no time for AR (some people know why, it's a good reason).  I've made sure I've gotten my daily post done and that's about it.

Michael, I HAVE to be efficient with my blogging, I just don't have a lot of free time to throw away if something isn't working.
