How to Create a Cool Real Estate Flyer

design for real estate

I hate avocados. First off, I’m not a fan of the color. Second, the texture is totally unappetizing to me. But, don’t you like the great graphic that I created? Isn’t it cool and easy on the eyes?

Challenges Faced by Real Estate Professionals

One of the biggest challenges for me and for many of the Realtors® that I work with is the challenge to turning off the noise. When I say “noise”, what I really mean is all the distraction—all the people trying to sell you products and all those emails that distract you from staying focused on generating leads and making more sales, all those products that are going to make your life so much better.

That being said, I want to tell you about a really awesome product that can help you to make aesthetically pleasing flyers (and other marketing materials) without the help of a graphic designer. It’s Canva. If you haven’t heard of Canva, you need to check them out online. They’ve got all sorts of different templates (not only for flyers, but also for social media posting and even for presentation slides) which are easy to manipulate and very easy on the eyes.

What's also very interesting about Canva is that you can search from something like 1,000,000 stock photos, and you can use any of them for a buck a piece. No account with istockphoto or Fotolia required to get the job done. (That avocado photo happened to be my own.)

Real Estate Flyers and Other Canva Offerings

Here are 5 things you can make with Canva in under two minutes:

  1. Open House Flyer
  2. Just Listed Flyer
  3. Powerpoint Presentation Slide
  4. Facebook Cover Image with Text
  5. Social Media Photos with Text
  6. Posters
  7. Banners
  8. Collages
  9. Infographics
  10. Book Covers

And much, much more. I must’ve been asleep in a cave of something because I just recently learned that Guy Kawasaki, former chief evangelist of Apple, is now the Chief Evangelist (and has been for over one year) for Canva.

According to Kawasaki, “Macintosh democratized computers; Google democratized information; and eBay democratized commerce. In the same way, Canva democratizes design.” Anything Kawasaki has his hands in is a great success, and Canva seems to be something that could really make the real estate professional’s life a lot easier. So, don’t ignore any information you get about Canva.

You should definitely check it out—even if it is only to make graphics of foods that you hate.

Hi Melissa- I'm familiar with Canva but have never used it.  I should give it a try.  And I am a huge fan of Guy Kawasaki.  He's a favorite of mine on Google+.

I love Canva and have been using it for quite a while now, Melissa Zavala ... so whole-heartedly agree with your suggestion here.  Very easy to use and inexpensive even when you purchase their pics.

As far as "noise" on marketing materials, that has gotten so much harder for LOs.  So many things are mandatory on all our marketing materials now that even simple marketing looks visually noisey.  Your piece looks so much cleaner and easily read ... great job!

I was on a webinar with Guy shortly after Canva launched and it seemed pretty cool, but thankfully I have a marketing team that produces great pieces for me so I don't really have the need.

And as for avocados?  Mixed with some onion, tomato, cilantro, lime juice, jalapeno, garlic, with a side of Margarita and some chips please!!

Melissa Zavala - CANVA is indeed a good place for creating flyers and few more things that our business needs.

There are a few posts about how to use CANVA for our business.

Melissa, I loved this. I happen to gravitate towards this type of thing, because I love the "art" of creating my marketing tools. It's fun for me, not work! I happen to have GOBS of my own photos, so no problem there. I use Ribbet, but heck, I'm willing to  bookmark this and check out Canva. You betcha! Thanks for the tip.

I really need to start using Canva. I keep going in and backing out because I like instant gratification. But with a little work you can produce some great material.
