In a Better Mood

A recent Zogby poll suggests that Americans' mood has improved slightly in recent months. A look at the results shows that we've gone from feeling terrible to slightly less terrible about politicians, the economy and the security of our jobs. President Bush's approval is up from 26 to 27%, and Congress has shown even larger gains going from 13 to a whopping 16% approval rating. Pollsters believe the increase in morale reflects lowered expectations.

Ahhh . . .good to know that things are looking up.

Gerri, lowered expectations!  Now thats something to feel more up beat about isn't it?  If we can't have the government we expect, then we lower our expectations and feel better.  Something is wrong with that picture.  Could it be we actually aren't feeling more warm and fuzzy, but possibly have just fallen into the cavern of hopelessness?

Gerri I think it comes down to the glass half full or half empty types.

I'm hoping for the best with you Gerri, but I can't help but agree with Terry just a little bit.  I, more than anyone, am hoping that the economy is improving... but I know I am still very disappointed and angry with politicians.  If they would quit accepting money from the oil lobby for their own selfish ends, and get gas prices back down to a reasonable level... then I might say I feel "slightly" less terrible.

John, based on the results, it seems that the American people feel the glass is only 25% full.

That makes me laugh.  :)  Lowered expectations, huh?  Is that the good news or the bad news?  :)

Christopher,

It's going to take more than improved gas prices to get this economy back to anything like "normal".  Repealing NAFTA/CAFTA and the Pacific Rim Agreements would be a start . . . keeping Wall Street from bidding up gas "futures" would be another . . .

It is Friday morning. I think a double will barely touch the pain.
