Our two golden retrievers, Rocky and Maverick (the Boys), keep life very interesting around my house. Rocky is 5 ½ years old and Maverick is one year and 3 months. Even though he is full grown, Maverick is still all PUPPY. He excels at getting in trouble and getting a little too excited at certain situations.
Every other Monday, the Boys go for a day of day play at Come Sit Stay. They love the indoor pool and just hanging with their furry pals. Many times, Maverick’s name is on the grease board when we pick up the boards saying that he was a happy swimmer that day. They both just wear themselves out and are pretty comatose for the rest of the evening.
The last time we picked up the Boys, the staff told us that Maverick had to go to “Timeout” twice during the day. I’m not sure if he was playing too hard with the other dogs, or trying to get fresh with them.
I began to wonder just what exactly timeout consisted of. Do they put him in a kennel and make him watch the other dogs play? Or do they take him inside the building and make him sit in the corner with a dunce cap on? Whatever they do, does Maverick even know that he is in timeout?
In all the years we have taken Rocky to Come Sit Stay, we have never been told that he had to go to timeout. Rocky has always been a more laid back, easy going dude. He rarely gets in trouble and if he does, it is probably because Maverick dared him to do something.
Maverick, on the other hand, is and always has been fearless. He just doesn’t care and has certainly taken on the role of the alpha male between them. If one of us is petting Rocky, Maverick pushes his way through and demands all the attention.
I guess when I think about it, Rocky is more like my husband Craig and Maverick is like me. Pretty funny!
I hope Maverick can stay out of timeout in his future visits (but I doubt it).
