Here in Durham, NC (The South's Tastiest Town), we have so many incredible breweries, restaurants, places for desserts, and bakeries that we are certainly a destination  for localvores and culinary aficionados the world over. Such places for delectables often steal the spotlight from Durham's other great attractions.

Nestled in a building in the Rockwood neighborhood next to Nana's is the amazing Miel Bon Bons. Behind an unassuming glass door, next to a dentist's office, is a fantastic shop of earthly delights. There, you'll see the proprietor, Bonnie Lau, practicing her art of chocolateering.

I found her shop last Christmas while searching for truffles. She makes truffles in one of the most interesting arrays of flavors I have ever encountered at a chocolate shop (my wife loves chocolates, so I have sampled many here in the States and across Europe).

Her current flavors are Chipotle & Raspberry, Mango Madness, Toasted Coconut, Chambord, Peach Bellini, Coconut Curry, Mojito, Moroccan Mint, Lemongrass & Coconut, Madagascar Vanilla, Mango Mint & Coriander, Lavender & Violet, Yuzu, Cinnamon Hazelnut, Maple Pecan, Raspberry Rose, Raspberry Truffle, Dark Cherry, Grand Marnier & Kirsch, Passion Fruit, and Sicilian Pistachio, to name only a few. They are all amazing, but my current favorite is the Coconut Curry, which is liquid coconut inside a dark chocolate shell and then rolled in curry. It is enough to make my taste buds want to hop out of my mouth and dance wildly!

Bonnie Lau brought her talents to Durham many years ago, but was initially taught her skills working beside the famous Beryl Ann Byrd, formerly of Just Fabulous Bakery in San Diego, California. She continued her education at two culinary schools in Paris (La Notie and Ferrandi), and then The Pastry School in Chicago.

Although my primary attraction to Bonnie's wares is her delicious variety of truffles, she also caters for  weddings, engagement parties, showers, anniversaries, bar/bat mitzvahs, corporate events, and creates works of edible art in the forms of cakes, caramels, French macarons, cupcakes, and other pastries.

Thank you, Bonnie, for bringing yourself, and your works of art, to Durham!

I'm sure these ladies are always busy. These truffles  look and sound perfectly delicious.
