Ice Cream Social-Share Your Funny True Story, Here is Mine

Several years ago I had to go serve a 3 Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit to a tenant in a pretty bad neighborhood.  The property was very small and had a chain link fence completely around it.  As I got out of my car I noted that a large muscular and angry pit bull was chained to a stake on the side of the house where the driveway was.  It was on a pretty long chain but it could not reach around to the front of the house.  I sized up the situation and determined that the dog was secure, though growling.  I opened the gate and made my way up to the front porch and door.  I had to attempt service by knocking on the door and handing the notice to someone or post it on the door.

As I walked toward the door, the dog began running and lunging to get to me.  As I got to the porch I could see the dog's nose as it attempted to break free from its chain.  This happened three times.  On the dog's next lunge it continued past the corner of the house and I could now see its entire body moving toward the street.  IT HAD PULLED THE STAKE OUT AND WAS FREE!  With the chain and stake in tow, the dog realized it could now attack.  It was me and the dog and the dog began running toward me at full speed.  Time suddenly moved very slowly for me and I stared straight toward the charging dog.  At the last moment before he collided with me at full speed, I instinctively dipped low and let out a huge "BARK".  The pit bull stopped in its tracks, turned, and ran around the corner of the house where he came from and did not come back.  At that moment the tenant opened the door.  I handed her the notice and quickly walked back to my car.  I drove away and took the rest of the day off.

I would do this job for free it is so fun!

Too funny!!!  I once showed what was supposed to be a vacant house, except clearly someone was home.  After checking with the listing agent, who assured me it was vacant, my buyers and I tentatively walked in -- and discovered a body hanging from the doorway between rooms!  I left out a HUGE scream, and starting pushing my way backward, into my buyers, in an effort to get out of the house, and knocked them both over onto the porch!  After pulling myself together again, I walked back into the house... only to discover it was a mannequin!!!!  I'd rather go through that again than to be seen barking at dog though!

Hi Robert - You are so lucky you didn't get bit. I have seen the results of dog bites, they are not very pretty.

He had to go home and clean the sargent's stripes out of his undeware and long pants as well.

Mine happen one of the times I was deer hunting when, early in the morning befor daylight, I had climbed up into a permanent stand to wait for hunting to start.  It was my first day on this stand for the season when  I felt something hit the tree below me.  I waited and could tell something was climbing up the tree.  Reaching for my flashlight, I heard what sounded like a sneeze or something spitting.  I got the light turned on to see the head of a very large bobcat look up over the edge.  The only thignI could think about was if it could bite the end off my gun before I could pull the trigger.  It was chewing on the end of my gun and I kept trying to pull the trigger, realizing the safety was still on.  I gave one large push and yelled to the top of my lungs and dit went back over the edge screaming as loud as I was.  We never saw each other again and my partners thought I was killing a woman from the noises.  Turns out the bobcat had taken up residence on that stand over the course of the previous year.  I can still hear it screaming or is that me I hear?

You got lucky!!!

I once had a staring contest with a German Shepard and I lost the contest. It bit my leg and tore my brand new designer jeans to shreds. Fortunately, I did not get hurt too badly.

I learned my lesson- I'm sure you did too.

Robert...

I think you took Ceasar's ( The dog whisperer ) advice and became the alpha animal of the pack. It was actually good thinking ...that is ... if you had time to think!

I once approached a house and a Doberman and a small Chihuahua approached me. I kept my eye on the Doberman, and as I did, the little Chihuahua eased up from behind and bit me on the leg. They had it figured out!

Great storey Robert. When I got out of collage, I ran a computer business. I went to a ladies house to fix her computer. I rang the doorbell, and she opened the door and let me in. Once inside I went to the computer and began checking into the situation. Out of nowhere and with no warning, the most rabid cocker spaniel in history suddenly appeared and announced his arrival by attacking me. It was like the Tasmanian devil, the damn thing bit me four times by the time I could even react. That lady did not get a discount.

Nice photo!  Did you take the day off because you needed a change of clothes?  :)

I love Richards' story! My Father had a Doberman and a Chihuahua - guess who the BIG baby was?  But everyone thought he protected the house.  Last laugh is on them. Huh.

April-My clothes were fine.  It was my nerves.  I could not calm down until the next day.
