What is the Westfield Bridges Run?
Never heard of the Westfield Bridges Run? That's OK. No one does any actual "running". Instead, this "run" is really more of a mini-mission. The church works in conjunction with Bridges Outreach of Summit. Their Bridges Run program brings food to the homeless men, women and children in Newark and New York City.
Volunteers are asked to come to the church on Saturday, August 14th at 4pm. First, there will be pizza and Bible story discussion. Then, volunteers will assemble more than 300 sack lunches. Even if you can't make it to assemble the lunches, food donations are always welcome. After all, that is a lot of bags to fill. Bread, lunch meat, fruit cups, chips, granola bars and bottled water are needed. Give the church a call first. You can find out exactly what items they are deficient in and then arrange a time to drop off your donations.
The next morning at 9am, volunteers will gather in the church's parking lot to load up the lunches and run out to Edison Place out in Newark. Thus, the "Westfield Bridges Run". Staff from Bridges will help volunteers pass out the sack lunches, some lemonade and other supplies to the local homeless population. Everyone will be back at the church later in the afternoon.
Would you like to help with the Westfield Bridges Run? Contact the First Congregational Church of Westfield today to sign up. If you can't be there physically, you can still help with a food donation.
Speaking of charity, Team Guys and Dolls is still looking for donations for Bike MS. The race is set to take place around Manhattan in October. But you can donate anytime. Simple click the photo to the left. It's really that easy. No donation is too small and everything is greatly appreciated.
