Very good to note that this is NOT pet friendly. I lived on the island in 1990 for about 5 months. There's a lot of ferral cat populations on the beaches. Very sad sight for me. Pets aren't treasured.

Aloha Carla, Feral cats have devastated our endemic and indigenous bird species, but most communities today in the islands and many neighborhoods and home owner associations have a team of volunteers to monitor, feed, spay and neuter cats in their area.

I'm not sure were you were living when you lived here but it is very rare to see a cat on the beach. As for pets being treasured, I would have to disagree, a generalization that pets aren't treasured seems contrary to the billions of dollars spent yearly on pets. That is not to say the much of humanity is brutal and monstrous toward other species as a whole. Mahalo for visiting!
