Spotlight on Tribeca!

Tribeca – shortened from Triangle Below Canal Street – is a hip, diverse, exciting neighborhood bounded by Canal StreetWest StreetBroadway, and either Chambers or Vesey Streets. It’s home to artists, actors, business moguls and young professionals and of course, the Tribeca Film Festival.

In the early 70’s, artists populated Tribeca, making use of new zoning laws, which meant they could live/work in the same space. Once of the center of textile and cotton trade, Tribeca residents began converting former industrial buildings – abandoned and inexpensive - into residential buildings and lofts, and lay the groundwork for the happening neighborhood it is today.

Tribeca is a sought after neighborhood for home buyers; large living spaces  - from renovated industrial space in the northern section to newly built condominiums in the south - attract professionals and young families. Doorman buildings are plentiful, as are soaring ceilings and open floor plans, with many apartments featuring stunning views of the Brooklyn Bridge and City Hall Park. Residents come here to enjoy the historic architecture, fine dining, expansive shopping and cultural activities - such as the famed Tribeca Film Festival - Tribeca has to offer. The loft-lined streets of this up and coming neighborhood are quiet after business hours, slowing down the hectic pace of the city. The addition of the YMCA 92nd Street location has given another boost to Tribeca, bringing another source of culture and community to residents.

Neighborhood residents appreciate the full spectrum of what Tribeca offers - from small boutiques by major designers and upscale clothing stores, to international housewares and everything from Japanese knives to handcrafted bicycles! Dining for Tribeca-dwellers runs the same gamut, with comfort food to some of the best steak in the city to an impressive list of bakeries, with every flavor of treat imaginable.
