Wedensday, August 12th Target, Police officers and local kids came together. The second annual shop with a cop event at the Gateway Target in Springfield, Oregon. This event connects kids with local law enforcement officers, who help the children look for school supplies. They had 30 officers representing every local police agency. This will help 30 pre-selected kids shop for everything they need for the 2015-2016 school year. This year, Target will provide backpacks and help pay for some of the school supplies.
"Our kids especially, foster kids, have negative experiences with law enforcement and people in authority in general. It's just a really good opportunity to do one on one with a police officer, show them they're not the bad guys. They're not scary. They're here to help you and it's just an amazing event, says foster parent Carol Hansen". The event is organized by 'Sisters in Law', a nonprofit group made up of police officers' wives. They raise money for the event through fundraisers and donations.
The kids will have a chance to meet a police k-9 officer and Scruff McGruff, the nephew of McGruff the crime dog. A big thanks to "Sisters in Laws" for organizing the event and raising funds for it!
