Why I became a Realtor®

Sun City Grand AZ

In 2008 I decided enough snow, enough wind, tornado warnings, hell storms and humidity. I sold my home, business and packed up for the long distance move to Sun City Grand, Surprise AZ. As I was not at the age I was ready to retire and not financially set to retire I had to make a decision as to what I wanted to do for the next 10 or 15 years. So I did what every unemployed intelligent man would do that loved golf, I played golf every day for approximately the next 80 days and it was a joy. In late July 2008 my mind told me it was time to figure it out. New car sells, start another business or become a Realtor®. Surprisingly the answer came to me rather fast as I decided it was going to be Real Estate and I was off and running. I went to the local Brokerage in Sun City Grand, Ken Meade Realty now Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage as of Feb., 2014. Talking to the manager I decided I was going to go on the fast track and have my license in 3 weeks. Going from 80 days of golf to classes and cramming for the final test was quite the shock to the system but low and behold 3 weeks and 2 days later I had passed the State and National exams and was a Realtor®.

Now to explain some of my reasoning as to why I became a Realtor®. Having bought and sold quite a few properties in Kansas I realized I wanted to be in an industry where I could help people to accomplish some of their wants and needs with major investments in their lives. Living in a 45+ active adult community and many 55+ adult communities around me I noticed how many homes were being listed and sold and the market was thriving all around me. Only one problem and I saw it coming, the market was crashing. I was asked by so many of my friends and acquaintances why are you getting in to Real Estate now as it is a terrible time. My answer, what better time to learn the industry as my theory was, if you get in during tough times and learn the hard way you will be so much better off as nothing came easy. When you struggle and work hard to meet your own expectations it makes you a much better person and makes you appreciate what you have and  believe me you won’t forget how hard you worked to get to where you are today. I can tell you today, I made the right decision 7 years ago. I am in a very competitive, fast moving industry and love every minute of the whole process. Warning this business is not for the faint of heart!

So if you are out there wondering what to do with the rest of your life whether just out of High School, just graduated college or like me deciding what you want to do with the rest of your life, I say. Pick a career making sure it is something you are very interested in and compassionate about and go at it full bore, don’t look back, just set goals, meet and exceed your goals, treat others as you want to be treated and work hard. When you stumble get up and make the next day a better day.

I feel honored and blessed to be where I am today!

Hi Jim...The rest of my life started for me in 1986 when I got my license. Now almost 30 years later I am still as excited and happy to be helping buyers and sellers as I was back then.

You made a good choice.
