There is nothing like a drive in the Foothills of Sacramento, looking at country homes and ranches. I spent a good part of my day yesterday taking a listing in Auburn and then visiting with my assistant who also lives in Auburn before going to the Board office to exchange out yet another dozen lockboxes.
It's amazing the stuff that you learn working in the Foothills. For example, you can definitely see where the water runs, and there is a lot of natural water that flows through the Foothills. Some of it is captured and sold to NID which, in turn, sells it back to the property owners. Other homeowners rely on wells and large storage tanks. You can see the line running through acreage where the grass is much greener, and that's because a stream runs under it. Some of the water comes from the river over the hill and flows down the mountain.
You can easily create a pond by digging a huge hole and within two hours the lake will fill up. Drainage pipes carry the water down to the next area. All the neighbors know each other, too, and hang out together. Unlike where I live in Land Park, for example. I have met most of the people on my street but none of us hang out together. I hardly ever see the neighbors on either side of me, and don't even know the name of Alice's husband.
