Thanks John!
Thank yous are a good thing. I'm a huge fan of personal, hand written thank you cards, and saying thank you at every opportunity (and meaning it). Throughout the course of a day, we do a lot of work for others - whether it's researching something, getting a loan funded, solving a problem, or following up with a 3rd party. Many clients offer a "thanks" every time we talk to them, and that's always nice. But when someone sends the following kind of 'thank you', it's special.
"Hi John! Thank you! Your entire team was phenomenal to work with. We are ecstatic about the new house and really feel like if not for you and your team we would not have gotten it done. Thanks again so much!"
This was the note I received from someone that found me online (ahem....online, from an ActiveRain blog) that was having a problem getting approved for a mortgage at a few of his local lenders. I had just made the transition to Mason-McDuffie Mortgage, and this guy was living in and looking to buy a home in North Carolina. I'm not licensed in North Carolina, so I couldn't take his application, but what I could do was listen to his story, ask questions, determine if he had a shot at getting approved, and put him in good hands with someone at my company that is licensed in North Carolina (the company is licensed there, I am not personally). He had a tough story, some credit issues in his past, and a semi-complicated financial situation. That being said, it sounded like there was a shot to get it done if we used a direct-to-Fannie Mae loan program.
I put him in touch with my regional manager who is licensed in North Carolina, explained the situation, and from there I let him run with it. I informed the borrower that although I could not help him directly with his application or lock, that I appreciated him finding me online and reaching out, and that if he needed anything throughout the process, I'd be available. Turns out, he didn't need any more of my help.
Last week, this gentleman and his wife went to settlement on their new home, and I received the note above. A short while ago this guy thought his chances of owning a home were slim to none, and now he's got keys and a place to call his own. Not only am I excited for him; I am beyond excited to have joined a team that cares about helping people and providing top tier service just as much as I do. It's nice to know that when something is out of my hands, it's still in good hands. That's a feeling I haven't had in a while, and I feel rejuvenated because of it.
Thank me? No, sir. Thank YOU. Your kind note about my team solidifies what was a very tough decision for me as the absolute right decision. I had some major "does the grass just look greener" fears when deciding to leave my former employer. Having arrived at Mason-McDuffie, going through a few loans, and hearing feedback like this confirms it - this is the greenest grass I've ever been on.
