I have my favorites when it comes to entertaining events in Sacramento. Ranking high on the list is Gold Rush Days in Old Sacramento, which annually occurs over Labor Day weekend in historic Old Sacramento.
Last year, the event was cancelled due to the drought. That’s because during Gold Rush Days, Old Sacramento’s cobblestone streets are covered over with dirt. There are horses, cowboys and a plethora of Old West characters, along with gun fights, stage coach races and many other activities which populate the dirt covered streets.
In 2014 it was the cleanup of the streets after the event, requiring a great deal of water to clean old town streets, which gave reason to curtail the event. However, this year they have found a way to avoid the use of fresh water by using reclaimed water instead.
So, if you enjoy Old West theatrics, melodramas and re-enactments in a historical setting, then plan to spend time In Old Sacramento over this Labor Day weekend, which begins Friday, September 4th and runs through Monday, September 7th.
The four day event is always family friendly!
