Viddler Video Commenting - Is This Vlogging?

Today I was reviewing one of the Video's I put together for my kids called "The Magic Floating Dollar!" I was explaining to them some ways that a REALTOR® could use this as a demonstration when at a Listing Appointment. Instead of a dollar, the agent could use their business card to perform a memorable and fun presentation.

I have been spending lot's of time reviewing many different Video hosting platforms: YouTube Yahoo Video MySpace DivX Stage6 CrushedPlanet.com OurStage.com Google Video VeOH Grouper iFilm Caught On Video TinyPic Multiply YouAreTV OverairTV Yourfilehost MetaCafe DiDGU WellcomeMat and I am sure there are many others I may have missed, but Viddler is one that had a feature that really kind of impressed me.

Viddler is a Video hosting website with some limitations, but what I thought was cool is the ability to add comments at certain points during the video. You can even add video to the video. I started thinking how this would apply to the Real Estate Industry? How would you use a tool like this or would you? What about your visitors and subscribers to your Blog? Is there value in having comments added to your video, or giving others access to add their comments? They already do on our Blogs...Hmmm

I'm using the Video below for you to experiment with to see how this all works. Feel free to comment, add your video uploads, make suggestions or just brainstorm some ideas on where the value may or may not be in this type of video tool. It's really kind of cool, but is it practical and beneficial to you or our industry? I'd love to hear your comments and opinions, both good and constructive. Please leave them in the video below, if you can, or just leave the "traditional" comments if you prefer.

VIDEO COMMENT POSTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Just click on the little circle that's on the play bar as it's scrolling across the bottom of the video, a little green plus sign (+) will pop up, and just click on it for options. Leave your comments, video etc. Very Cool!

Edit: 4/22/08 - 5:00pm. It looks as though you can't comment on this video unless you're a Viddler Member, which you'd have to be to use this tool anyway, so thanks to those of you who helped us figure this out. I know you have to be a member at Youtube, and Google to upload video there as well. I was just wondering if this brought any value to the community or our industry. I still think it's pretty cool... :-)

Thanks Brad for the site listings. Been playing with this myself lately. Seems like it will be the next wave. I did set up a viddler account and it is fun and easy to work

Hey Brad! I'm BAAACCCK! Finally fixed my Comcast Issue and blogged about it to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else! You can check out my posting about our excellent din-din together. Not sure if I should put a link here or not-I want to be politically correct-but you know where I live!

Thanks Brad for your support and help with my blogging issues. I just set up a really cool blog for my hubby Steve and his cycling buddies-Could not have done it without your blog-"Welcome to My (Brad's World) World!"

I can make the dollar disappear it seems to be easier today than ever just pull up to the gas pump. Thanks for the video.

Tony - I'm sure there are many other sites, but I had never seen one that let you comment in the body of the video!?! It's really pretty cool.

BTW - So why didn't you leave a comment in the video? LOL!~  That's what I want to test out!!

Maybe I should disable the comments on this post so it forces you to leave a comment in the video instead? :-))

04/22/2008 11:29 AM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Diana - WELCOME BACK!

You were suppose to leave your comment above in the video!! Of course your comment is a bit longer than may fit in the video. haha!!  Glad to hear you're up and running, I'm off to check out your post!

Do me a favor, come back here and leave a comment or video up in the Viddler so I can get your feedback on how it worked!!  :-)))))

04/22/2008 11:48 AM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Nathan - this probably isn't the best video to use as a sample, but my kids love it, and it seemed to be short enough to test on this post.  Did you try to leave a comment in the video?  Try it, I really want to see how it works from your end. Thanks Nate!  :-)

04/22/2008 12:29 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Terry
- you were suppose to comment "In The Video".  I'll send you that dollar back that you lost at the pump today, if you'll come back and comment "In The Video!"  (BIG SMILE!!)

Thanks for the "Laughing Gas" too!  That was funny!  I remember when we use to be able to fill it with Ethyl...and afford it!!  hahaha!!  :-)

Brad, I tried to make a juicy comment in the video, but it asked for a username and password. Apparently, I'm not "in" with the "cool AR" people! "Welcome to My World :-\" Diana

Brad, when i grow up, I wanna be as cool as you! I was wondering if you can make them float, can you also make them multiply?  If so, please do share!

04/22/2008 01:02 PM by Jeremy Blanton- Myrtle Beach Real Estate ,Coldwell Banker Chicora (Coldwell Banker Chicora Real Estate)

OK... here's an idea, imagine this were a "virtual video tour" and others could comment at particular points in the video.  Maybe discuss specific features, likes, or dislikes etc.  What about sharing home improvements videos to get ideas and suggestions on specific key points or areas of the house.  I could see where a home stager might even benefit from a tool like this.

Video topics for discussion???  What type of video would get the best results, or get people to comment in the video commenting section of Viddler?  I see that no one has commented yet up in the video?!?

Do people even know they can comment in a Viddler Video?  Is this a tool too advanced for Real Estate Consumers or for our industry? If not, how would you use it?  And if so, then this post was worth doing just for us to find out?  :-)

04/22/2008 01:04 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Diana - thanks for that feedback, I didn't know that you have to be a member of Viddler to leave comments in the video.  Are you sure??   I'll wait for a few other responses to try and confirm that.  If consumers can't comment without being members of Viddler, I'm not sure I see much sense or value in using or having a tool like this, what are your thought in "Your World!"  LOL!~   You know I love ya!!!  :-))

I'm not sure anyone would ever join a site just to leave a comment, I guess we'll see more as this one unfolds.

BTW - One of those Hmmm CONCEPTS: This is like having a Beta Testing Division or AR. Couldn't think of a better place or network to find this stuff out from members?!?  Thanks for your help...   :-)))

04/22/2008 01:16 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Jeremy - thanks, and yes I can share with you how to make them float and multiply!!!  But since you only want me to share how to make them multiply, I will!  Are you ready?  Here it comes...... BLOG BLOG BLOG, then VLOG VLOG VLOG, and watch the floating dollars begin to multiply!!  You're already on the magical money highway, now just do the tricks!  :-))

04/22/2008 01:20 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Since many here may not know how to do this or that you can do this, here's a simple tutorial about adding and viewing comments on a Viddler Video.  Hope this helps, again, just wanted your feedback and to find out what you think of a tool like this, not so much what you think of the silly video! LOL!~

How do you make a comment on the Video Above?

How do I view comments made on the video above?

You can use your video or webcam to add "Video Comments" as well.

04/22/2008 02:59 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Brad: I tried to leave a comment, and after I did, it required me to log on. No, I don't think it would be too difficult to use IF it didn't require someone to sign IN.

So, how did you do that?

Brad,  I am so far behind the curve with all of this.  Finally got a Flip last week and have only made one small video.  Thanks for the info and site.  It's really mind boggling all of the choices that we have out there.

04/22/2008 04:17 PM by Marc Grossman, GRI - Central Florida Real Estate Specialist (Keller Williams Premier Realty)

Teri - thanks for trying, I guess it's now confirmed.

You can't leave a comment on the video unless you're a Viddler subscriber, Oh Darn!  If something like this Viddler service were to take off though, I guess we'd all just have to become members anyway... LOL!~

I remember I had to join Youtube.com and Google Video just to upload there as well.  I guess they all want us registered for tracking purposes or something fun like that. :-)))

How did I do it? Easy, I just signed up, uploaded that silly video I did for the kids, and that was it.  Viddler gave me the embed code, and I posted it here!  Done.  How can work be so fun and rewarding???  :-)))))

04/22/2008 05:11 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

I primarily use WellcomeMat for my real estate videos. (You Tube for play). And WellcomeMat allows stopping points and comments to be added also.

04/22/2008 06:11 PM by Lisa Hill (Daytona Beach REALTOR®) (Adams Cameron and Company)

Marc - do you see what sittin around with the kids watching a video does to me?  Next thing you know, I'm talking about a "Viddler Video......this and that.... Realtors and Lenders could.....and that's when I lose them completely!

LOL!~  Man I love my kids!!  :-))

Brad:

Now how did you do that?  I'm still trying to figure out why I can't get a photo to load in my background on customizer!   wow... I'm really still tech-challenged after all this time!  For me it's not "tech-know"... it's "tech-no" for me! Help!! :)

Desiree - if that happens again, please call me and let me know.  I am doing some spring cleaning here and hope to have solved whatever was causing my Blog or posts not to load! Thanks, you're the best!

04/23/2008 04:56 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Jan - let's get that photo loaded for you. It could be the size of the photo that is causing you havok!  Call my cell this afternoon or evening, and I'll walk you through it over the phone.  There are a couple options that you have.  Thanks Jan.

04/23/2008 04:59 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Lisa - I was unaware that Wellcomemat had that feature, I knew you could sort by chapters but hadn't seen the commenting capability. I'll have to check that out for sure.  Have you done a post about WellcomeMat yet?  Thanks for commenting.

04/23/2008 05:02 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Ray - thanks, I know that sometimes all this new technology can be a bit overwhelming, but better to know about it now, instead of when others are using it to grow their business, and we don't know anything about it huh?  I love sharing this stuff with others, but sometims I need your help testing it out, seeing if it's of any value, and commenting just as you so faithfully do all the time.  I sure appreciate that more than you know. Thanks Ray!  :-))))

04/23/2008 05:05 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Lisa - thanks!  :-)

Teri - you are just too cute!!  I knew what you meant, I just wanted you to come back and get another 25 magical points for me messin with ya! LOL!~  The floating dollar thingy is just a magic trick. You know what they say, a good magician never reveals their secrets! haha!  But since I'm not a very good magician, and AR is a place that was created so that we CAN share, I guess I could give you a hint how that was done!

HINT: Must be performed with no strings attached! Also, you can know that there really is no such thing as "Magic" unless you Blog on ActiveRain.  Call me and we can finish this conversation if you like, besides, I like our phone discussions, they too are magical! :-))

Brad....I should know you would come up with something like this. Great...if you're your young and have enough brain cells to absorb MORE technology!  I'm still trying to figure out how to  upload a picture to my blog page, so you can imagine how "challenged" I would be to present something like this at a listing presentation......You are very good at what you do!

Janice - no technology skills required for this one, it's all about the effect or is it affect! haha!  :-)

The photos you are trying to upload might be too big in file size.  For the AR Blog Customizer, you have to have the right size for banners and backgrounds.  Experiment for the best results with photos.  Uploading photos to AR, they should be around 640x480.

Most cameras now days shoot them at 2048x1900 or something crazy like that.  Those won't upload to AR, they are just too big.  Once resized, photo's will upload easy and quickly!  If you still need help, call me.  :-)

04/23/2008 09:58 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Teri - I did get my computer back yesterday, get I was getting too Active Brad with it! haha!  Blew out the power supply.  Yeah!  It's back home now and very happy!!  :-)  Let us know how your event goes today.  Wish I could have been there, sounds like it will be a great event.  Looking forward to your posts, photos, etc.  :-)

Great trick Brad!

Its got to be a magnet. Thats my theory at least.

I think that Viddler could be a great tool, I just think that it would be even more powerful if they allowed comments from visitors.  I am looking forward to your future blogs on the power and potential of video in the real estate industry.

04/24/2008 01:56 PM by Bradly Bernier (Real Estate Web Experts)

Brad, I suspect a few of us will be posting. Took lots of photos, etc., and there were a ton of people! Great turn out.

Bradly - it's not a magnet, but Viddler has had that affect on others too! LOL!~  I agree, I think if anyone could comment, it would be like "way cool!"  I think even youtube makes you login to comment though don't they?  Oh well, I had to test it out and see what folks thought. Thanks for stopping by, it was great talking to you the other night, looking forward to your contributions and successes here on AR.  :-)

04/24/2008 11:05 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Teri - I can't wait to see and hear all about it!  Thanks for the call the other night as well, I just wanted to make sure that everything was ok. I appreciate you letting me know, and I'm glad everything is alright.  You've become a great friend Teri, and I don't take my friendships here or anywhere for granted!  Thank you :-)))

04/24/2008 11:08 PM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Brad, you are right in the regard that you have to log into YouTube to post a comment, which I also think should be different.

Oh well, what do I know? :)

It was great talking to you too and I am looking forward to contributing more to AR.

04/25/2008 02:22 AM by Bradly Bernier (Real Estate Web Experts)

Bradly - it appears that most video hosting sites and many Blogs require you to login before you can do anything.  Who knows, maybe that will all change in the near future, at least some of us hope so.  :-))

04/25/2008 10:31 AM by Brad Andersohn ~ Community Builder (ActiveRain)

Yeah, you may be able to use this for your testamonial video with other clients about to comment or you could use it on home tours for feedback and the owner can see it.

04/29/2008 09:29 PM by Mead Homes (MJ McAdams Realty)

Mead Homes - an excellent idea and comment. Thanks!  I'm sure there are many ways this could be used. Getting the opinions of members and visitors like yours helps others determine if they see valuable in this as a tool in the industry or not.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinion here.
