Hi Myrna, Welcome to Active Rain. The Hispanic market nationwide is so untapped it is sickening. There is a huge market out there just waiting. We are reaching out in our community and getting involved not only with our local Chamber of Commerce but we are also getting involved with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. God Bless You and your family and I hope you have a prosperous 2008. I look forward to seeing your future blogs. Thanks, Keith

The Hispanic market is definitely growing. I am currently working with my first buyer. Their strengths are that they work and want to own their own home. Weakness-does not know how to go about doing it. As an agent, knowing the language is a real benefit:

Soy de bienes raíces que hablan un poco de español

As you may see by now, being Hispanic and understanding their needs is a bonus. We are all looking forward to a better 2008 and the key may be the Hispanic Market. I appreciate all of your feedback and response. I also started a new group called: Se Habla Espanol Realtors - please join it!

OK...I must admit I am a little confused by this and I am probably opening myself up to a firestorm of what will most likely be undeserved attack...but....why are we labeling any market?  Is this even legal?  I do not think that Agents are allowed to specialize in any market that is mentioned in the fair housing act.  To focus on one demographic that is in a protected class means that you are not focusing on all and therefore may be discriminating?  Just food for thought.  Hmmmm...I will pretend to be ignorant here....what must be done differently to work the Hispanic Market??? Please enlighten me :-)

In Southern California in general, and many of the communities I work, i.e., Oxnard, Port Hueneme, and Santa Paula to name a couple, people of Hispanic decent make up 50% or more of the market.  He tenido aprender Espanol para trabajar con los que no hablan ingles.  I hope I got that right.  Knowing some Spanish is a big help.  Unfortunately there are agents who specialize in that market that don't have their clients best interests at heart.

Kristi,

Thanks for the 'heads up" on your comment in regards to violation of Fair Housing Act. I will definitely look into that. I know that if you market a property for a specific ethnicity in advertising, you are in violation. So, I know the concerns are there. -I sincerely apologize if I offended anyone.

I will share what I know, I am not by any means trying to discriminate buyers and sellers. On the contrary, I treat everyone as family. I am currently working with prospects and clients from all backgrounds. I would love to expand my reach and knowledge of Real Estate to "Spanish speaking people"  as a Niche.

FYI: I have been contemplating the idea of getting an MBA because there is a shortage of Hispanic MBA professionals. There are companies out there looking for them because they know the language, trends, buying power, and growth in this market, not only in Real Estate, but in general.
