The Importance of the Hand Written Note

By

Hobbs Herder and others tell us the more consistent and repetitive the messages, the stronger the name recognition. Take advantage of the opportunity to brand yourself by ordering postcards or notepaper that carries the look of your website and your other advertising. Our business cards, website and postcards all carry the same picture of me and yes, my bodyguard!  We all know we should be writing notes frequently but getting motivated or thinking of just reasons can sometimes be difficult.

What are some of the reasons you could send a note?

"Thinking of you"

"Passed by your home today and it looks great"

After a Listing Appointment-Do this immediately so they get it the next day!

After the 1st Time you work with buyers

A Birthday-Someone told me the birthday card from car repair place was the only card she got. Don't you think that made an impact?

An Anniversary-Either of when they bought their house or of their wedding.

"Great to meet you"-after a networking event

Of course, the trick here is to start doing this on a regular basis, so that sending out 5-10 handwritten notes becomes a habit. Keep them handy in your purse or briefcase, already stamped you can use waiting in line time or waiting on hold time to jot a quick note. They say it takes 21 days to create a habit, so make a goal for yourself to do this for at least 3 weeks and it should start to be part of your daily schedule.  That's it for now.  I have some notes to write before I go to bed!

I know how I feel when I get a handwritten note from my lender or title rep. So I know my clients are feeling the same with my notes. I hit it hard in January for a few months. Then got busy with business and slowed down the notes. Guess what, my business slowed down. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the reminder! It is so easy to respond with an email that we forget how much a handwritten note is appreciated.

We've all heard this a thousand times, but it's good to hear it again.  Can't remember which one, but one of our US Presidents had the habit of sending handwritten notes as well.
