Does Technology Mean Less Personality?- sub title Can You Make Friends Carrying Around Index Cards?

Couple years ago I remember a few successful agents that have been selling real estate for quite a while say they thought technology would remove them from the personal relationships they have made with their clients.  I am not sure if they thought this was really true or if they were using this as an excuse not to learn how to do something new.

I have even heard agents say that they don't even read their email!  Others say they don't even know how to turn on a computer. I know of some who carry around their data base on index cards.  You may think I'm exaggerating but I wouldn't have believed it if I had not seen it myself.

I realize that it is basically about developing systems and doing what works for you and your business.  It has been my experience that my investment in technology has increased my business and increased my relationships with my clients and prospects. I still have much to learn but I have found plenty of resources to lessen my learning curve. Active Rain has been an essential ingredient in my success.  It has been technology that has brought me closer to my clients that found me on line and so many friends and associates that I've met here in the RAIN.  I certainly never found any friends by carrying around index cards.

I really believe in this authentic marketing on line that blogs open up.  I have not ever been a conformist.  I have never fit into what anyone wanted me to be.  I have always struggled with that until I came to the point where I could just accept myself for who I am and then find the life to be who I am.  Finding the career that allows me to be fulfilled and use all my gifts, so generously given to me, for which I am grateful.  Finding the relationship in my life where I feel save to be who I am and that makes me want to be an even better partner.  Finding my way to contribute back to others that fulfills my passion to make a difference in my life and the lives of others.  Technology has given me another venue for developing these things that are most important to me not taken anything from my personal service only enhanced it.  It has for me taken personal service to the next level.

Nannette: I agree, but I DO have a filebox. It's for my car! I use it to call contacts periodically just to keep in touch. So, a touch of the old and new works for me. But I definitely love AR and can't imagine how I could successfully promote my business outside my sphere of influence without it.

Tara good to see you three times this morning!  I can see blending the 20th century and the 21st.  But living in the 19th could be carrying it to extreme.

Wow - I have never heard of anyone carry around their database in a file box.  However, I think that is actually a good idea.  I know that when I'm in the car if I want to call someone I don't stop and pull my computer out right there so I can look up their number.  A filebox with 3/5 cards about a client or industry people for the car is a good idea.  I think it gives a personal touch.

I'm also a big believer in technology.  I keep my contacts in ACT.  I like being able to mail merge and have a comment placed in every contacts file.  It has it's advantages.

Combining new technology with paper and pens seems to be a good idea.
