It's Trash Day in Carlsbad California

All About Carlsbad Trash Services

Yesterday was trash day in Carlsbad California. For me, anyway. It happens weekly, on different days of the week depending on where you live in Carlsbad.

The video at the bottom of the page gives you the scoop on Trash Day in Carlsbad

Let’s face it, we all have trash and we all want to get rid of it. Knowing how the trash services in Carlsbad work as a new home owner is important.

Trash is picked up at your curbside on a given day each week. There are 3 bin types for your trash:

A green top bin for landscape and green waste – leaves, grass, palm tree branches

A gray top bin for your regular trash – you know what I mean

A blue top bin for recyclables – paper, glass, cans, all recyclables in one bin

You should consider taking stuff to recycle to the recycling center, especially glass and plastic bottles and cans. You get paid for recycling these items! Here’s more information about the Carlsbad Buy Back and Recycling center operated by Waste Management at 5960 El Camino Real just north of Palomar Airport Road on the east side.

Trash, water and sewer are all billed through the City of Carlsbad on a monthly basis. You can pay online, in person, or via snail mail with a check.  The City of Carlsbad Customer Service and Billing (and Trash) Services office is located at 1635 Faraday off El Camino Real. Contact them to set up your new trash, sewer and water service before you close on your new home at (760) 602-2420.

I wish we had a "green top" type container.  We have a blue one for recycling (provided by the city/waste mgmt co.) but a regular garbage can for everything else.

We don't have curb side recycling here but we do collect everything and take it to the recycle center.

I like the breadth of service our town now provides, especially the 3 cans. It makes no sense to haev green waste in with trash or to not have recylcling for that

I like that we also have a recycling center for other stuff - e-waste, etc, I hated having to go to the dump when I lived back in New England every week or so. Curbside has me spoiled.

It is one of the top questions asked by  a buyer after they close of a home.  There is always extra trash after a move and the bulk dump days are especially important.

That is so true. It often seems that buyers move in an are left with trash they did not expect, although sometimes the complication is the move-out date for thesellers and the day of trash sevice.

Carlsbad does provide bulk pickup (big items - furniture, some appliances, etc) at curbside too, although you have to arrange it in advance and there are limits. I have had clients use 1800GotJunk a number of times for that last minute cleanup to get rid of stuff they don't want
