The Robertson Ranch area in north Carlsbad has undergone a dramatic transformation in the last couple of years, from acres and acres of tomato fields to a large master planned community under development (no houses yet). Throwback Thursday 2 days late!!

Here we were then...

Weird, they WERE there but now I don't see them either, plus I don't see the rest of what I wrote, either. The editor is having fun again. May need to redo

And those new homes are much needed.  I wish we had that kind of space here. :(

I liked the fields of tomatoes.   And I've had to type my copy and then load my photos last on several occassions lately to get my photos to show up.

So what's the price range going to be on these new homes?

Just wait until you have photos of the new development when the houses are complete.

While homes and shelter are needed, I think I would miss the open fields and farms.

Big space is definitely running out here unless you move inland.

First time I had had this issue with photos. Weird.

We don't know the pricing yet - they have just released some information on the proposed floor plans. I am guess at least in the $700s to start and then over a million for the largest floor plan in the first community they are releasing

It will indeed be a big change. I'll probably take photos throughout the process

Well it IS a shame. I know more housing is needed, but it's still hard to see beautiful agricultural land and open space being turned into planned communities. The traffic along this main road is going to really change

That's progress Jeff. I am sure that many locals are unhappy.

That will be fun to see.  And when it's complete, take photos every five years.  The difference that maturing trees can make over the years is amazing.

Jeff we need more housing which means building on open land, but it is a shame to lose those beautiful green fields.

There are plenty of people who are not happy but others who are. There are always buyers around who want new housing, and to get that, well, land has to be built on

It's true. You see some pretty dramatic changes just driving through some of the communities that were built 10 years ago, and 5 years ago. And looking back at some of the photos is pretty shocking.

It has always been a tough call - losing open space for development. The good thing is that Carlsbad still has a fair amount of open space that cannot be developed. I've been driving by these tomato fields for years and it's taken some getting used to with all the changes. Having 700+ houses here in the next few years will be even more shocking
