Clarksville Downtown Market Summer Harvest
Clarksville's Downtown Market is on the downside with only two months before it will close for the season. I can tell by the crowds that people's own gardens are coming in and they have less need to visit the vendors at the market. Or could it be that with school back in session parents are running their children to ball practice and other events?
I arrived early and my favorite vendors were busy with folks loading up their bags and boxes. I take advantage of the bulk buying plan where I get to refill my box to the limit for only $9. I get to decide what I want to take home and this week I selected fresh okra, yellow and zucchini squash, banana peppers, red, brown and green peppers, red potatoes, Roma and yellow tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and some red heirlooms to top off my box. It was so heavy I had to carry it in my arms so the veggies wouldn't fall out.
Each week I see a new vendors and the same vendors don't necesarily come every week. This is a new system allowing them to pick and choose the weeks they would like to participate. Many of the craft booths are hoping to attract buyers for some early Christmas shopping. Because my load was weighing me down I could do much looking and will have to shop first next time. The peaches looked so good and they were locally grown but I just couldn't carry any.
The bread and bakery vendor was giving samples and I of course had to try a few things. I could justify buying a loaf of Jalapeno Cheese bread and thought it would be a good addition to some of my veggie dishes. They put it in a sack and hooked it over one of my hands while I was carrying the veggie box.
Of course the Taqueria Truck was there and the hot dog vendor. Do you know some people eat hot dogs at 8:00 in the morning?
Clarksville's Downtown Market takes place every Saturday from 8am to 1pm on Public Square in Historic Downtown Clarksville TN. The locals know about it and come and browse and buy. It is pet friendly and a place the whole family. This week's music was by local artist, Lydia Walker. She is excellent at her trade. The market will be open on Saturdays until October 18.
