Traveling With Carla . . . To The City By The Bay:
San Francisco
A few weeks ago I took a trip down to visit with my son, Carlson, in the City by the Bay, San Francisco.
It was a lovely vacation and today I finally had some time to edit the photos and put together a slideshow.
Hope you enjoy!
Filmed at the Following Locations:
Madhouse Coffee in Brisbane, CA - A great way to begin the vacation . . . at the Mad House! Wonderful coffee, terrific views.
Farinelli Antiques - Nothing says Chinatown quite like an Italian antiques boutique. But, there you have it . . . hey, Marco Polo paired the two cultures, why not Farinelli?
Chinatown - What vacation to San Francisco would be complete without a trip to Chinatown? This is the largest Chinatown outside of . . . well, it's the largest in the U.S.
Top of the Mark - The views were breathtaking, the Orange Creme Brulee was watery. This restaurant is located at the top of the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins. It has a 360 degree view. Hint: sit on the Financial District side.
Sausalito, CA - located outside of San Francisco, crossing the Golden Gate bridge to enter Marin County is a beautiful drive. Looking back at the city on a clear day . . . you can see forever . . . AND Alcatraz!
Tiled Stairs at Lincoln Park - the stairs leading up to Lincoln Park are located at 33st and California.
The Cliff House - this historic landmark is a MUST see. The original structure was built in 1858. A rich history you can read about, if you'd like: History of the Cliff House or see a very nice slideshow: 1858 to Present. The Cliff House has had five major reconstructions. Although it survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, it was gutted by a fire one year later. The photo at the top (right) shows the mid-50's version. The photo beneath shows the modern day. Hint: The Popovers are amazing!!
Sutro Baths - a very interesting concept in upscale hoity, toity bath houses, which ended in ruin . . . literally. Located to the north of the Cliff House, the Sutro Bath used to have an aerial tram connecting the two.
Japanese Tea Garden - a lovely place to sip, then stroll.
Golden Gate Park at Stow Lake - In the heart of Golden Gate Park, Stow Lake offers lake recreation. What exactly, you might ask? I've got two words: Paddle Boats
Rick Steves . . . eat your heart out!
