Granite Countertops need loving too!

Granite Countertops are stunning and a common desire for many homeowners. Frequently, people get granite countertops and then neglect them. Granite Countertops need loving too! Here are some tips to keeping your granite countertops looking beautiful for years!

Spills: clean up spills immediately! Don’t let them sit on the countertops as they can stain. Acidic drinks such as coffee, wine, tomato juice can stain the surface very quickly.

Use the right equipment: when cleaning the surface please remember to use a sponge or a soft cloth. Don’t sure any type of dish brushes or steel wire brushes as those can scratch your countertops.

Use the right Chemicals: Many people like to use natural cleaners. You want to be very careful with granite. Don’t sure things like vinegar or orange extract as both can ruin the counters due to high acidity. Don’t use bleach on granite counters, instead use warm water and a special cleaner made just for stone counters.

Coasters: Use them. We know you don’t have to but this will help prevent any scratching or etching in the granite. Granite is not known for cracking with temperature changes, however it is still possible. Use hot pads under your pots and pans.

Cutting Boards: Granite is very scratch resistant but why risk it? Also, cutting directly on stone can actually dull your knives.

Weight: Don’t put lots of weight on your counters. Yes granite is strong but it is not flexible and they can crack under weight. Sometimes as little weight as one person sitting on the counter is enough for it to crack.
