Where Did the Mountains Go?
Extremely hazy skies are dominating all of Colorado. The mountains are still there, but you can barely see them. The air even seems thicker. What's causing this? It's the wildfires in other western states.
News reports say that over one million acres are burning in California, Oregon and Washington. A high pressure system is driving the smokey air southwest into other western states creating the haze. Colorado is lucky this year to NOT have any MAJOR wildfires. I hope the firefighters and residents in the above mentioned states get a break soon.
Some people with extra sensitive noses claim at times they can smell smoke in the air. Various health agencies are warning people with heart and respiratory problems to minimize their exposure to the outside.
I was traveling through some beautiful Colorado country over the weekend, but it was almost pointless to take any scenic pictures because of the haze.
One of the positive things about all the haze is the wonderful sunrises and sunsets. I took this sunset picture a few days ago from the Cedaredge Middle School track. This morning I witnessed an extremely beautiful sunrise while driving out of Pueblo. The sun was a giant orange ball in the sky. I've never seen it that orange.
A change in the weather later this week could put an end to the haze.
I've lived on Colorado's Western Slope for over 25 years. I love this area and all it has to offer, and I enjoy sharing what I know about my home. As a REALTOR®, I also love to share my expertise in this area as well. If you need any real estate information for Montrose County, or Delta County, Colorado...please give me a call.
