I have a close friend name Chuck Walden who was a brother in Christ and a member of the church where I attend. About 3 years ago chuck told us in our small mens class that his white blood count was elevated on his routine blood work.
Just about 16 months ago Chuck underwent a bone marrow transplant for Leukema. He had the perfect match(they said that was rare). About 7 months ago his counts starting reversing so they started some chemo once again.
Chuck was an encourager. Chuck led from the front and always looking for ways to serve. Our church was blessed tremendously by Chuck. About 2 weeks ago, Chucks wife Bobbie told us the doctors told them they could do nothing further.
This past Sunday morning Chuck was in attendance surrounded by many family members. Our family minister was scheduled to preach but(I know this was the Holy spirit) decided instead on the spur of the moment just to have singing and almost all the songs were about Heaven. Everyone had an opportunity to hug chuck and tell him how much they loved him. Chuck was smiling and talking and laughing.
Looking back to Sunday, this was a memorial service for Chuck who was still with us. He and we all said our goodbyes.
After the service one of the men from our wednesday night men's class(about 8 of us with chuck) suggested to Chuck that we name our class after him. I will never forget what Chuck told John, "Its not about me, it's about Jesus".
Chuck went to be with the Lord last night and this song has been heavy of my heart reminding me of Chuck.
