Record Public School Enrollment in Maryland
Public schools will open in Maryland with an expected record enrollment of 870,000 students. In Montgomery County, where we live, the enrollment forecast is that 156,514 students will attend classes during the school year that begins on August 31st. That number includes 2,662 more students than last year.
For out of the area readers, the population of Montgomery County, Maryland is about one million and the county has a reputation for the outstanding public school system. A number of the schools will open with classroom additions to meet the expanding demand.
It is interesting that Hispanic students now account for the largest racial or ethnic group in kindergarten through the second grade.
In neighboring Prince George's County the new school enrollment is projected at about 129,000 students, up about 1,500 students from last year.
