Thanks for the Memories, Mr Cheney

Those who patronize this palace of culture that is my blog will know that I am a major fan of Vice President Dick Cheney.  He is, in my view, a great American and has been in the right places when we needed him for decades.  Perhaps his greatest strength as Vice President has been the fact that he never planned to run for President.  His lack of a personal political agenda allowed him to serve his President and our nation with distinction and grace.

The following clip is 10 minutes from the Radio and TV Correspondents Dinner and shows what could really be accomplished if Mr Cheney and the President had better writers and more air time.

I don’t like watching these events this year, because Mr Cheney is frequently saying that this is the last of these events he will participate in.  I will miss you Mr Vice President when you retire at the time you chose.

Thank you for letting me know about this group on AR - I had no idea that there were so many blinders still on. The mortgage industry foolishness was fueled by the administration and loose watch over money, interest rates and lending practices. (The last time it happened was on Bush Senior's watch) As for the escalated problems since the Dems took over - try looking to the Signing Statements made by Mr. Bush over and over again. No bill will really get passed on his watch and have any teeth. Hmmm children without insurance comes to mind quickly. Or how about ignoring Habeas Corpus. Come to think of it will we even have an election in November. (Not that I think any of the 3 will be better for this country) Can't the administration just decide to disable Congress in time of War (that they created). As a life long independent in New Hampshire both sides usually disgust me in their greed and choices.

Ted: great post.  I agree with you and think Cheney is a great American.

Shannon, that's such a "cute" jab but I'll say that

It's safer to hunt with Dick Cheney than to ride with Ted Kennedy.

Owen - I wouldn't ride with a Kennedy or hunt with Cheney. Both are bad plans.

I guess you didn't notice that I am an Independent and always try to vote for the more qualified candidate or at least the lesser of two evils.

Wow, you can't even have fun anymore. A little comedy from Darth Vader?

Dick Cheney was so beautiful in front of all of his enemies. He even made them laugh at themselves.

Ted-Dick Cheney is a great American who has given up untold wealth to serve his country in a time of war.  It was clear to see in the 2004 as it is today that he is a man of honor.

Jane- Prove to me that Dick Cheney took one dollar from any private company related to the war for personal use since he was elected Vice President.  I want proof, not slander if you dare.

Ted I,m not a big Cheney fan and have my doubts but this video was really hilarious, bout time we saw his other side. It was nice seeing him take jabs at the media.

Thanks Hugh - always glad to see you - even with your doubts.  I thought the video was enjoyable - perhaps more so since it is a side of Cheney that we do not see often.

There are several events with correspondents of  different media groups each year and they tend to be good natured fun (not always - I remember Don Imus being just out of line when Clinton was President.  Went on and on about Lewinsky while Mrs Clinton was at the table which I thought was in bad taste).

I recognize that I went beyond mere presentation of the video - thereby incurring the comments of Jane and Shannon.  It is beginning to bother me that next year at this time we will be playing Hail to the Chief for someone else - whether Republican or Democrat.

ANd thanks to all for stopping by

Dick Cheney is hilarious. Even George Bush states he is the funniest man he has ever met.

And Dick Cheney has a fine wife. That says volumes.

The liberals fear him because he stands for strength, and liberals want to cower and run for fear of offending the terrorists. They have no solutions but to cut and run.

Larry,

You comment above: "Prove to me that Dick Cheney took one dollar from any private company related to the war for personal use since he was elected Vice President.  I want proof, not slander if you dare".

Let's see, do I have this right.  Cheney works the Washington scene as a rep from Wyoming and later in several administrations.  After Clinton wins the White House, he becomes an instant multi-millionaire by going to work at Haliburton.  Then he goes back to Washington and plans for the invasion of Iraq.  Halibuton is awarded a no-bid multi-billion dollar contract.

Duh!

And how did the Clintons amass this 100 million dollare fortune of theirs just eight years out of the presidency?

Bill Schwent- Cheney had to sell his stocks to avoid a conflict of interest.  Mr. Cheney made money from his work at Haliburton.  Not for anything that happend because of 9/11. Should we talk about all the money the clintons got from China WHILE IN OFFICE?
