Ask an Ambassador - Do Points Really Matter?
If you have been around ActiveRain for any amount of time you have read conversations about the points. Chances are when you signed up for the Rain you didn't know that there were points then as you started engaging you saw your points total begin to increase. Just by logging on each day and making comments on other people's blogs you are awarded points. So does it really matter? If you are a competitive person the answer would be yes. It is fun to see the numbers rise and congratulate other members when they reach important point milestones.
What types of activities give you points? Almost everything you do in the network has a point value attributed to it. Logging on and posting blogs, commenting, asking and answering questions, reblogging, entering contests, having your blogs liked and bookmarked by others, reblogging other's posts, participating in contests all make the numbers rise. There are many other activities that will yield you a few points here and there.
Another reason to care about points is your ranking in your city, county, state and the overall network. The higher your points go, the higher you rise on the leaderboard in your area and in the network. This can be very valuable if another agent or a consumer is searching for a real estate professional and your name rises to the top. It is a way to get noticed and have you selected to get referral business.
Do points really matter? They are a measurement of activity and involvement. They matter to many members but don't stress about them. They will come. Blogging should be enjoyable and not just about mounting up points. If getting points is your only goal then you are missing the real value of ActiveRain. What you gain in knowledge, building relationships, networking, marketing ideas and business building is priceless and no amount of points can equate to that.
