In August of 2012 I wrote a blog about starting a relationship with an "accountability partner" (Want to Know How to Achieve Your Goals? Get an Accountability Partner.) I can proudly say that Deb McNeil from Ft. Worth, Texas and I have talked almost every week since that date.
We have talked about illnesses, children, vacations, husbands, the weather, and, oh yeah . . goals. We speak every Monday and discuss what we are going to do that week to enhance and advance our business.
It's the verbalization of those goals to someone else that makes it real for me. After I've told Deb what I plan to work on for that week, darn it, I do it. I can't NOT do it. I'd be a liar!
I'll admit, some of those tasks have been completed Sunday night at bedtime, but as I said, they got done. I want to be able to tell her that I accomplished the goal. Life isn't perfect though and sometimes real estate deals intrude upon our little goal-achieving scheme, and some goals do get put off. But never for long.
When Deb and I talked two weeks ago she surprised me by telling me that she and her husband were going to spend a long weekend in Chicago. We would finally get to meet in person!
Today, I picked Deb and her husband Tim up at the Winnetka train station. We had lunch and I proceeded to take them for a tour of Winnetka, Wilmette, and Glencoe - just like I would for relocating buyers.
We had a really good time and it was wonderful to meet this special friend and her pilot husband in person. It's another Active Rain perk that so many of us talk about - the people we meet here that become friends - even when we don't meet in person. I just got lucky.
So get ready Deb - one of these days I'll appear at your Texas doorstep in the middle of one of our Chicago winters! We can have lunch and it'll be your turn to drive around.
