Take Me Out to the Ballgame As the Games Will End in New Britain CT

An Evening at a Minor League Ballgame.

America's favorite pass-time is not spent on a gridiron on a Sunday afternoon, but on diamonds with games any day of the week and in sets of 3 or 4.  Such is the case in New Britain CT, where the Rock Cats play.  The New Britain Rock Cats are a Double A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, or at least for another month.

New Britain Rock Cats

The team is relocating to Hartford CT Next year and most likely will have a new affiliate as well as it was announced that the contract with Minnesota will also end this year. We have been to a few games this year, as our youngest grandson, Raphael so much enjoys the game.

His enthusiasm is also contagious as his cheering for the home team gets noticed by all around him as well, and they are soon joining him with his chants.  On this night he was in rare form, especially with the home team scoring 3 runs in the first inning against the Portland, ME Sea Dogs, a Boston Red Sox affiliate

Minor League ball games are so entertaining.  Between innings there are all manor of diversions, such as racing coffee cups from Dunkin Donuts, or making a cheese burger between 2 groups of challengers; the game of removable the chairs with a Mascot, which is how Raphael won the vouchers that brought us to this last game.

Next year will be a lot of firsts as the team will be Yard Goats, and it will be with a new affiliate, in a new park.  Hopefully the fun will be the same or better.

Ed loved this post and I find that now AA and AAA are the better places to watch a ballgame....the players are more real and the fans are really fans not to be seen by going to the Ballpark mentality and the prices are better too:), Endre

Good Saturday morning ED. I do not recall when I was at a ballgame. It has been decades. Hate to hear that you are losing your baseball team.

Young Raphael is not camera-shy for sure. Did he get it from you? Such a cute boy. Thanks Ed for sharing the local sports event in the area.

Ed this is the first year in a long time that I have not gone to a Rock Cats game.  That is a nice stadium and hopefully they will be able to get another team in the future.

Ed - So glad that you are supporting minor league baseball. I work for the Angels during Spring Training and for their Rookie League, and I absolutely love it. You get to see the stars of tomorrow before they become the stars of tomorrow. Plus, the tickets are cheap, and the entertainment is always a blast.

I know you are sorry to see the team move. There is nothing like going to a good old fashioned baseball game.
