My blacken soul awakes, quivers and peeks at your door
to no avail, to never, to never more
Once more awaken to my soul's being
To the henchman who stands within me
Till then, the blade glistens, sharpness unbound
in the moonlight, and the flash of a moment
Swift downward flails, mortality unfolds
Then, and only then the blood flows
Till I understand the finality of what I cause to be
Then and only then this moment settles
Fate awaits me, a mere mortal
To answer for my consequences of my choice
To succumb to the depth of their desires
Quiver, swallow, inhale, breathe once more
God please show me to the door
I want out, away, to survive
To alight and live once again
Second chances are a-rare
but all I ask of you, once more
One more time to regale, to reach the sublime
One more happenstance to be me
That is all I ask of Thee
Please, let me understand Poe's darkness in me
and not subcome to what it makes me be
