Walking Shoes and Real Estate

Yesterday afternoon I was out with my client looking at the progress of her new construction.   It's coming along and I can't wait to see her finished home!

After we spent about an hour with the contractor, we made plans to go out to lunch, and after lunch we went to look for a new pair of walking shoes.

Several months ago, my client had gone to a walking clinic.

It was a "how to" on walking!  Can you imagine that?  How to WALK!?!  It's a 12 week course conducted each Tuesday.

ActiveSalem/Gallagher's in Salem

She couldn't tell me everything she learned from attending the walking clinic, but did mention the benefits of having a good shoe!

I walk in and see the shoes lined up against the wall on display and I'm ONLY focused on one thing:

THE PRICE

The owner of the store, asks me "What are you looking for?"  I tell him "I'd like a good walking shoe."

And he says, "A good walking shoe . . . is really a good running shoe," and I immediately suspect he's trying to hustle me in to a higher price range!

Then he says, "What size shoe do you wear?" and I reply, "I'm a size 7."

He says, "Well, you'll have to look at an 8 or 8 1/2  . . . "

WHAT?!?!?

I'm not buying a CLOD HOPPER shoe . . .

I wear a Size 7 Shoe . . . SEVEN . . . S-E-V-E-N

I know all about the size shoe I wear, thank you very much.

I know ALL about walking, I've been doing that for over 56 years, thank you very much.

But did I really know?

No . . . No I did not!

For YEARS I have been buying THE WRONG shoe and THE WRONG SIZE for walking!

Shoes and Walking . . . How Pedestrian!

Yesterday, I let someone who knows more than I on the subject of shoes and walking . . . educate me!

I bought a SIZE 8, running shoe!   It's a wonderful fit.

I never thought I would wear a size 8 running shoe for walking!   However, when I let an EXPERT on the subject explain the REASONS . . . IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE.

Buyers and Sellers need to listen to an expert when buying or selling.  Real estate is a lot more complicated than shoe buying . . . and for years I have to admit . . . I've been doing it ALL wrong, buying walking shoes that is!  When buying real estate and representing my clients, I'm a very knowledgable, experienced agent!  You don't need to walk a mile in my shoes . . . I'll handle it all!!

Please  feel free to write your own 'if the shoe fits' analogies in the comments!

An enlightening article Judi K Barrett .  I go to the "Cheap" shoes section; however, I keep the advice of the 'high end' shoe advisors, in mind and WIN both ways!

Hi Carla...Wonderful analogy. You explained clearly why we should always seek the advice and assistance of an expert. Happy walking!

Judi, while there is a great analogy made by Carla Muss-Jacobs, Principal Broker/Owner I guess I'll need to do a little research on this because it does sound a little counter intuitive wearing a shoe that much larger.

This is a good selection for a re-blog. I do a lot of walking and comfortable shoes are a must.

Judi

Most of the ladies that I know have sneaks in their car for showing new homes . . . . or land. Makes good sense.

Good luck and success.

Judi K Barrett Thanks for re-blog.  Love Carla's analogy.  Will scurry over to her site.

BTW My walking/running shoe is one size larger than my dress shoes.  I keep an extra pair in my trunk for those days when my piggies need a break.  And they breathe a sigh of thanks, too.
