Going the "Good to Great" route...follow the advice of the hedgehog.

This is a great article from Ron and Alexandra Seigel, Luxury Real estate marketing specialists.  Once again, they speak about the importance of developing a niche and how this can differentiate as well as insulate your business.

Going the "Good to great" route...follow the advice of the hedgehog

Google yourself!

What comes up on the search engines for you?  You should know this because most prospective clients will do this before they even call you.

Sometimes they won't call you based on what they read...or based on not finding much about you.

Google your competition as well.  What can you learn from that.  Maybe some of your competitors or colleagues are doing something right that you can search and reapply for your business.

Social Media Tips:

Engagment
Regardless of which social media platform you choose, the key to success is engagement.

Try to avoid posting boring and mundane items.  Instead, post interesting updates - ones that will encourage others to comment.  This could be as simple as asking a question.

And, very importantly, comment on other people's posts.  This will get you the most attention and appreciation.  So many ignore this simple approach.  It's just like when you are a networking event - you need to listen and ask questions...not just talk about yourself.  Use the same offline principles online.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Dear Debbie,

Happy Labor Day!  Here's to a great fall!
I can't believe summer is almost over. I'm going to savor every minute of it.  I love fall, too...it's the season after that I'm not crazy about.

Flooring tips are below; marketing tips on the left.

10 Tips for Selecting hardwood floors

Hardwood flooring can add beauty and warmth to your Westchester home.  It can also be a large and a long term investment.  This choice can impact the style (as well as value) of your home, and you'll be living with it for years to come.  It's ideal to thoroughly research the type of wood and the hardwood flooring contractor you'll use.  Sometimes, making the choice can feel overwhelming, especially when one ventures into a hardwood flooring store.  This hardwood flooring guide can help you think through the choices.

1.  Understand your sub-floor BEFORE you start
  • Do you have a plywood sub-floor or concrete?  You should know your options and limitations before you start as this can have a big impact on the form of wood you choose/type of construction (e.g. solid hardwood flooring vs engineered) and your budget.

Which is better for hardwood floors - oil or water based poly?

At Floor Coverings International, we offer both options, but I strongly recommend oil based polyurethane over water based because:

1. It looks better

2. It lasts longer

3. It costs less.

So, it seems like a no brainer, right? Well, usually it is a simple decision, but there certainly are some exceptions and different customers have different needs.

So, let's explore this a bit further.

 7 Carpet trends for 2015

Carpet color and style can help personalize your space as well as add comfort and warmth. Carpet can either provide a neutral palette background, or become a focal point for the room (especially if it's an area rug).   So, here are the carpet trends I'm seeing for 2015.

1.  Neutral colors, especially grays and taupes

Grays & Taupes are the new neutrals. One of the things that is so interesting about these colors is that they can stand on their own, or create the canvas for pops of color in the rest of the room (e.g. paint, pillows, window treatments).

You know what I love about these the most? They are straight forward, simple, and highly educational. No fluff. Too many newsletters and email marketing campaigns have so much clutter I click off of it before I even see who or what it is. Not this newsletter.
