Peeping can get Dangerous, and is No Way to Rent a Home

Peeping can get Dangerous, and is No Way to Rent a Home.

I had some people call me from Milwaukee exclaiming that they were ready to rent my rural home.

When I asked them if they would like to set an appointment to tour the home, her response was that she had already looked at the home, loved it and was ready to move in.

This had me confused since this was the first that I had heard of this person.

Further down the conversation she revealed that her and her family had stopped by the home and looked in all of the windows, toured the grounds and it was perfect for her and her family.

I was shocked, and wondering how she did this without my vigilant neighbor stopping by with his shotgun and / or a couple of sheriffs deputies.

After a moment of digesting the situation, I pointed out to her that trespassing was a crime, as was peeping.

Not only a crime but a rather risky one since many people do have guns and have been known to shoot faces that peer in their rural windows.

I told her that I would call her back and email an application when I calmed down, and until that time, don't go wandering around the Northwoods peeping in peoples’ windows unless you are wearing a bulletproof face.

I never did call her back, though she did call me about 50 times, eventually I checked her and her husbands record just out of curiousity.

Evicted by several Milwaukee landlords, history of drug offenses, including manufacturing of narcotics.

I wonder what they had planned for my place?  Did I miss out on an unwelcome appearance on Breaking Bad?

Hi Bob -- pretty scary!   The lack of common sense never ceases to amaze and sadden me.

Yikes.   Glad you dodged that problem.   I worked with buyers, usually first time home buyers that have already stalked the home they want to buy.  Attended open houses, peeped in windows, and picked their agent last.   I can appreciate the empowerment but contact an agent/property manager first to start that relationship.

Good Morning Bob Crane

It seems from your investigation you found your reason why the felt they could trespass and peep. They have no respect for others or the law.

Trusting your instinct with prospective tenants is usually a very good thing to do, sounds like they would not have been good tenants for you, haha.

Bob Crane It sounds as though your "gut feeling' and resulting reaction were well founded. Losers are everywhere and come in all shapes and sizes with only self-serving intentions.

I hear about people doing this all the time Bob and it is called trespassing. It could lead to a bad situation.

Some folks have no boundaries, unless it is their home someone is peeping in.  I remember having a listing where the family had just had a new baby.  The Mom was breastfeeding one day in the comfort of her living room when a nosy buyer without an agent was seen peeping in the window.  Unexceptable.

Bob,

Gosh that is some story and frankly you got rid of some bad people my friend. Peeping in Texas will definitely get someone shot and a no bill by the Grand Jury!

Yeah, don't think we'd ever be that desperate to rent out a home.  I wonder what their motive really was.

Good morning Bob. Ultimately the reason not to rent to them was their rental history, sad how some folks will do bad stuff and look for someone else to steal from.
